That's a bit of an odd one Dave isn't it. If it was a MOST problem I believe you radio display would still be on but with no sound. Does head unit and sat nav screen use the same power supply?
Stu.
Hi Stu. Thanks for chipping in
Not sure if they use the same power supply yet.....
......still need a schematic or circuit diagram
Still it's another day tomorrow. Will have make Mr Fluke earn his keep Cheers, Dave in Essex

I had no idea what it was until I tried to do a hard reset and the battery terminal detached itself leaving a stump. My battery was getting 14.4v across it as measured by an RAC man six months earlier.
New battery and no problem since.
The 'dark art' of hard reset was one of the first things I tried to no avail Cheers, Dave in Essex

So far......
Yesterday I think I have eliminated the usual suspects on the Media Orientated System Transport (MOST). This is the fibre optic ring system that sends red laser signals in and out of each of the passive audio units. These were looped out in turn using a MOST Loop lent to me by Geoff.
The red laser signal is generated in the IHU and loads of red light was squirted out of that
So, the TSD, Bluetooth Module and TMC were looped out in turn.
Some piccies to show what I did:
Suspect no. 1 - the Sat Nav Screen aka TSD (Touch Screen Display)
TSD rear connections
TSD MOST looped out
Bluetooth Unit was then MOST looped out
Finally the TMC Unit was MOST looped out
This morning I have wasted loads of paper printing out stuff from the Discovery 3 "Workshop Manual" that shows the electrical connections
Now to disappear for a few hours with my Fluke multimeter
Meanwhile if anyone has a "Faultfinding Guide for the Harmon Kardon Logic 7 System" then I would be much obliged Cheers, Dave in Essex

If you do without it for a bit remove the head unit from the vehicle and apply power to it on the bench. If it stays running ok we have a starting point.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

OK Robbie. Will do
Might be a while before I report back.....
....this afternoon finds me doing some DIY stuff on my daughter's house
This morning I pulled the driver seat squab base off and got at the Amp with Mr Fluke.
Speakers are all OK. Voltage into the Amp is OK 8)
When I popped out at lunch time kept turning it on and watching...
Everything works except for the clock display on the dash showing --:--
Now could that be a clue
I only have a humble Hawkeye Diagnostic Thingy
Are you aware of any DTCs that are associated with this system?
Maybe this evening I pull the head unit out and power it up in the shack like wot you suggest....Cheers, Dave in Essex

.....still showing --:--
At least the 3 flashes are still working 8)
As Robbie has suggested I will now investigate the Head Unit when I get a mo.....
Do you know where I might find circuit diagrams and/or schematics for the system?Cheers, Dave in Essex

Did you do a hard reset as explained in the Wiki.?.
Flack
Hi Flack - YES I did a HARD RESET (as per the Wiki etc)
I'll do it again tomorrow just to make sure.
If it doesn't work I'll thrash the car in true Basil Fawlty style Cheers, Dave in Essex

Just found Technical BulletinNo. LA-415-003
"Infotainment" System Diagnosis 8)
This actually lists my Symptom exactly
Symptom:
Integrated head unit (IHU)/Infotainment system switches off by itself after approx 30 seconds.
Cause:
Security set on media orientation system transport (MOST) software error.
Action
Place vehicle into 'Transit mode' and out again using WDS disc 10 or later ensuring Security on MOST is not activated.
So the question is - what is WDS disc 10 and how do I go about taking this action....... [/u]Cheers, Dave in Essex

This morning did another 'hard reset' just to make sure.
It's not difficult
Infotainment system still shutting down after 20-30 secs....
....and no clock on dash display
So anyone know how I can go about the "Action" as described above in the TSB
i.e.
Action
Place vehicle into 'Transit mode' and out again using WDS disc 10 or later ensuring Security on MOST is not activated.
Will probably post a fresh request for this separate information Cheers, Dave in Essex

No, keep the thread together.
WDS 10 predates your vehicle by quite a way so one hopes this would have been addressed....
Still need to know if the shutdown is commanded or not. Got it on the bench yet?
