Mine's a manual by Sunday afternoon, Little 5 had mastered gearchanges too 8)
Mine too and my two (admitedly older than little 5) mastered the LRA demo route no problem Younger having only ever driven any vehicle (my D3) on a beach with loads of space.
His face doing the side slopes and the elephant footprints was priceless - proud as punch he was (unlike on Friday night )...
THAT was worth the whole weekend as well as spending some very quality (if wet and muddy) time with my two boys who live with their mum and not me.
Anytime anyone wants to organise a kids day out in their dads D3 event, we'll be there
Personally I spent most of the time doing the organised stuff as this is what they wanted to do and gave them the chance to get involved (I can play when I want). Max navigated on the Navtek challenge (did Sufun and I proud and even said the cow field exit WAS on the left and not through the herd's - I followed the herd of course not his advice ).
They were dead interested in Vince's safari slide show and then gagging to have a go with the LRA (well LRE really of course) chap.
Again... TOP weekend with TOP people
Rain - phooey - never at any time did it reduce the fun we were having.

I think all the kids did exceptionally well I was very impressed with my lad who was actually listening to me for a change
Iconix was very unlucky ....and strangely lucky at the same time ....the damage was, in the context of the drop, very minor ...and you had superb equipment and teamwork at hand to get you out.
I very much concur with other comments....but I would also like to add that even after you have had the tuition you should never rest on your laurels ....some situations are a fine line between pure exhilleration and a scratch, dent or worse....the steep incline that you drove up or down yesterday will be different the next day because of the wear and tear from others....you have to check, double check, get out and check, ask over the radio, get others to spot you ...in doing so you should be assured that there is no loss of face, ridicule or adverse judgements here ...you will be guarenteed of that 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Agree DG
One thing I enjoyed on the navtek challenge was the fact that some of the tracks we did were not chewed up by 15 MTR / AT2 shod D3's before we got to them... being at the back of the line is sometimes not a good place to be.

Simon, perhaps we can arrange some local greenlaning with the kids (well the older son anyway, not sure I want my 3-1/2 year old driving!!!)
Probably more complicated for you to get time with your lads, but would definately be up for it.
It was my first time greenlaning and it was a new experience to look out for the "unsuitable for motor vehicles" signs I'll be on the lookout for them ever more! Bodsys Brake Bible
Only problem with Green Lanes is that the kids wouldn't be able to drive as the same laws apply to BOAT's as to main roads.Loving the power of the TDV8!

Even better! Plenty of farmland with a few greenlanes would be perfect! If you need help scouting about and testing a few out, let me know ...... Bodsys Brake Bible
I've seen one farm near where I live with 500 acres! Only problem is that the buildings are completely derelict and would need another £500k to make the place good.Loving the power of the TDV8!

Put a big LRE sign on the side & you'll soon have some money coming in to pay for the renovations... Bodsys Brake Bible
