Sorted mine out this morning.
What seems to happen is the fixing for the main crank is just a little feeble and the slightest pressure allows it too lift off the internal cog so, no traction.
As has already been posted earlier, a gentle tap with a hammer gets it slotted back and normal service resumes but pressure is required once the wheel starts lifting to ensure that the cogs mesh and don't ride back up away from each other. There seems to be nothing holding the crank in place but now that I know what's happening, at least I can work around it as I doubt buying a new one will solve the problem as the cheap design will be the same,

The D3 winch is one of the cheapest, pieces of engineering I've ever come across. It jams at the slightest excuse and is nigh on impossible to fix. Land Rover seem to think that, whenever you need to change a wheel, one person should operate the winch while another crawls under the car to pull and jiggle the spare wheel. If the cable snags for even half a turn, it doubles back on itself and locks solid.
That made me laugh!
I think I jammed mine while working on my suspension issue.

I took it down and applied copious amounts of WD-40
We'll see how that works later?2008 Land Rover LR3 SE 4.4L
