Intercooler replacement
For the last couple of years I've had the occasional black smoke when towing our caravan along with what seemed like a slight power loss so changed the intercooler pipe, blanked off egrs and still had the black smoke... Although I couldn't be sure as I couldn't see any damage I suspected that I might have a hole or split in the intercooler, so took the plunge and decided to get a new one and have a go at fitting it myself.
I downloaded Angelfires guide to intercooler replacement from this forum and following his guide and photographs found this a really straightforward job for a novice. On removal found a 4 inch split on the inside which I was actually glad to find as it confirmed I was on the right track. Took me all day to do the job as I'm a total novice but to be honest I really enjoyed doing the job, really felt like I've achieved something and the result is amazing! All power restored and my 2005 disco feels just like it did when I bought it 10 years ago. Many thanks to Angelfires guidance and if anyone else is having these problems try taking a look firstly at the main hose which For most is the main culprit the but also consider looking at your intercoolers too.

Congratulations on a job well done, there is a real satisfaction in getting your hands dirty and sorting a problem out for yourself.

I take it you didn't take the opportunity to fit an uprated one then?

I considered an updated one but decided to stick with an original as i wanted to follow Angels guide and did feel a little nervous deviating away from it. The only slight issue I found was releasing the bolts on the underside of the bumper which were quite corroded. I ended up cutting these off with my dremel and once the bumper was off I used mole grips to remove the bolts, then just replaced with new ones. The washer bottle definitely needs to be removed to get to the hidden screw which holds the plastic funnel, I was worried about this bit but in the end it wasn't too bad with a little patience. It may seem like a very simple job for some of the more experienced owners on this forum but to an average guy like myself I really feel that I've achieved something and it has really boosted my confidence in having a go myself.

This is why an uprated IC is actually easier to fit - you can take the air scoop off with a couple of blows of a chisel since it's not needed.

That's strange, it was working fine last night but as you say appears to have vanished overnight.
I have it somewhere as a PDF so I can send it to you in a PM, so long as it hasn't vanished on me too yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
