Reduced Performance + Engine Management
Okay - had to happen at some point… just had my first fault in 112k.
The MY11 D4 is booked in to have it’s belts changed next Tuesday, so I’m not panicking, but driving home yesterday I got the red warning triangle and “Reduced Performance” indication on the dash.
It got me home (albeit sluggishly) and I thought I’d see if it was still lit this morning… surprised to see no signs at all… that is until I was about 50 miles from home. Now I’ve got the red warning triangle + “Reduced Performance” message now accompanied by the very bright Engine Management light.
I’m not going to touch it until it goes to the dealers on Tuesday… but just wondered if the kids are going to get anything this Christmas?
(i.e. - does this sound very expensive?)

Well, the bad news is in... and yes, we'll be having a quiet Christmas!
It's the dreaded O/S inlet manifold which apparently is also the rocker cover? Quoted £1,100 by a dealer I trust, but it's only that cheap because some of the work dismantling things is already included in the big belt change it was booked in for anyway.
I'm also told it's a known issue with 2011 D4 inlet manifolds not being manufactured correctly, and there's already TSB out for it (I can't find it here?). Unfortunately, I'm well out of warranty anyway so got to take it on the chin
Good tip for 2011MY - check your inlet manifold prior to leaving warranty period!

As there is a TSB out for it and I'm assuming you have full LR service history I would approach LR customer services to see if you can get a contribution out of them. For the sake of a phone call or a message on here you haven't got anything to loose and you might be pleasantly surprised?
As they say if you don't ask........

LR: "Sorry, sir, we cocked-up during the manufacturing process and are aware of a known issue with 2011 inlet manifolds. We have a TSB out for it but that'll still be £1100, please."
And you're prepared to accept that?

If I get charged the book price we're now talking £4,469 including belt change
(and most of this is for correcting manufacturing faults with the thin manifolds on 2011MY)
...any more and it'll be cheaper to leave the car at the dealers and walk away !!!
