Bi Xenon Headlight Shutters Sticking |
|
Driving after sun down yesterday, noticed a few cars flashing me. Seems after switching from full beam, the shutter on the passenger headlight was sticking. Few pot holes later and it fixed itself only to stick again if I applied main beam or did a quick flash. Don't think the full beam was on, hence no adaptive error warning just the direction of the light.
New unit - warranty jobby..... which is nice
Just thought I would share this with you all and warn you that if you must flash, be careful of sticking shutters.

Mossy - did your dealer admit this is a known problem? I spotted the same thing last night on mine: after using full beam for a while when I dipped the lights, the fill-in halogens went off but it looked as if the xenons were stuck in the 'high' position. It cured itself and I couldn't get it to replicate the fault when I got home and parked in front of the garage doors where it was much easier to see the beam cut-off levels.

Hi Guy,
Yes there was no quibble about it - mine was quite sticky so easy to replicate (if you mtapped the headlight unit the shutter would release), but it does sound like you're having the same problem. It was all under warnanty, but they didnt seem to think it was a common problem.
I just had to wait 10 days for the part as it was on back order, but was fitted whilst I waited. D3 HSE V8...
