Its best to in off-road. But if you are lifting just one wheel, by jacking under the wish bone, its not essential.

I have the CTJ3000QL (I think DG does too) - with careful use it is OK
I too bought this one, it is much better than the LR supplied thing but always feels as though it is struggling to lift the car, it works but if you can spare the cash go for the better one.
Also seen an ad for a draper Air Jack for about £45, seems to have the lift capacity etc but must be a downside at that price.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I've seen the Draper air jack as well, but iirc it wasn't high enough for the D3.

Sounds O.K, but I'm sure it was mentioned when there was a long thread on air jacks & it was deemed to low.
I've got to leave the office now so I haven't got time to search for it.

ISTR that it neede to lift at least 65cm (might be wrong) and that the Draper did not do that.

Lost it years ago! Still it's better than remembering things right, way to much responsibility.

I also have the clarke CTJ3000QL - 3 Tonne Quick Lift Trolley Jack.
Its been fine for the D3 (OK lifting from a hard surface), and for just over £40, not a bad deal for the ammount of times I'll use it.

Gareth I too had a Halfords jack but it wouldn't lift high enough I have the Takla in the car all the time, but they aren't IMO as easy to use as the TJ (excepting off road). Derek shame on you I'm a 10st weakling and I can jack the car up
I just think the air jack isn't the thing if you are only using it to jack the car up at home. A good TJ or bottle jack would be much better.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I use a Sealey 3 Ton super rocket lift, two or three of pumps and it lifts the Disco no problem. Fairly expensive piece of kit, unfortunetly I am limited to the shops that I can buy on the Island and shipping in from the Uk pushes the total cost to the region of buying locally.
Both times that I have taken punctures to the tyre garage they have used a smaller 1.5 Ton unit, it works but the guy has to work very hard pumping up the jack.2012 D4 - SDV6 XS - Firenze Red
