Upgraded from iPhone 6+ to iPhone 7+. My prior setup for in car calls doesn't seem compatible... As you will see, I had a lightning cable for power and a separate headphone cable running into to Aux in... my call audio would go through Aux and the phones mic would pick up speech.
The iPhone 7 does away with the audio jack... so I bought one of these lightning to lightning/audio jack splitters (seen in the pic). Works fine for music or YouTube videos.... BUT wont split out the audio of a call
Looking at alternative solutions that don't cost an arm and a leg.... Any suggestions?

i use the BTC 450 with an iphone 6 - it works fine for me for everything, calls and streaming - search my posts you will find a write up I did on it a while ago - cant see why it wouldnt work for iphone 7 - as you dont need the jack connection to the phone2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

PS do NOT go for the BTC 455 (next model up) as it does not work with D3 - I tried to upgrade as I wanted ipod and iphone simultaneously connected but it doesnt work at all - but the BTC 450 is great2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

I retrofitted a Bluetooth module for calls and bought a Bluetooth dongle from eBay for £2 which I stick in the AUX for music. It all work ok not 100% effective as a can't pair the two together at the same time, it does me and saves on cables running places.

Awesome - Thanks Johnny... Looks like the one to go for. I guess Aux cable is long enough to plug into the aux at the back... what 12v socket do you plug the main unit into?
Cheers!

yes the cable is plenty long enough, I also bought a 90 degree adapter from ebay as the plug stuck out a bit in the back, with the adapter its fine. Only a couple of quid.
I have the 12 volt socket in the driver side cig lighter - and the control (which also has mic) fitted as per the pics in the other thread, it works so well you would think its part of the car, 100% better than the built in D3 bluetooth for calls - and it streams music too.
The only very slight downsides are the volume is a bit lower than the radio or CD player but its easy to get used to that - and you need to switch to AUX when a call comes in if you are not already on it (ie if you are using radio or CD) (do this by press and hold the mode button on the steering wheel).
Its a very good solution, esp when you compare to the price of alternatives. If you do a good job on the wiring you would never know it was an aftermarket device.2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

This is what I love about this site! Post up a problem and someone has a solution!
BTC 450 turned up today... took about 5 mins to install and set up... works perfect with iPhone 7 and only have my one charging cable up to the phone. Sound quality is fine as is voice at the other end. Job done! THanks Johnny!
Next up, I'm planning on putting in a front and rear dash cam... any suggestions on model and install would be great!

no worries mate, glad it worked out - I'm sure that loads more people would be using this if they realised what a great (and very cheap) bit of kit it is.
I see so many posts on here asking about streaming music, and solutions costing hundreds of pounds with Parrot or FAKRA.

Here it is! Had a number of calls today on the way up to dundee and was great - audio streaming was flawless too... There is really no need to spend £400+ on a Parrot kit... Smartphone covers all the controls you need. Highly recommended 10/10.

I have just got my first 2005 D3 S. Even with the HI ICE standard kit the audio sounds really good from the CD player. Ahead of any more integrated work later I used a cheap bluetooth dongle I had lying around in the 3.5mm aux port. Whilst this obviously works, the sound quality was pretty disappointing. Uninvolving, bass response not great etc. I can't imagine my £10 quid BT dongle has a good DAC so I have just found an ARCAM dongle second hand on eBay for £50.
