This is fair enough. The system is a back up of security-related stuff that applies to the EU. The UK won't be in the EU so the UK hosting that security-related stuff would be a daft.

I'd be more concerned if we lost the contract to build the Galileo satellites.
SSTL has come a long way since I was at Surrey with a bank of BBC B Micros and a Bofors gun mount on top of the engineering block.

I doubt the EU will look for someone else to build the satellites this late in the day. Big difference between building the hardware and managing the data/security which is what the move to Spain is about.

Agree it is just that I have already seen the usual messages around the internet on that with the usual "but we have not left so everything should stay as it is till when we are in EU" Wink

Might be true but the same reasons which led to the move of the management of data to Spain might also impact the rest. Lets see when Brexit will happen

With a loss of 1 job...how will we cope? Wink

I am sure you can as it seems your job will not be impacted Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
Better for Spain as when the set up will be complete there will be 30 spanish working there. So in UK one would have been enough also when the site was set up and running. Do not tell that to the spanish Laughing

Surelly this is in no way comparable with the impact in terms of job losses and releated losses (hotels rooms etc) of EMA and EBA leaving but sometimes it is not just about job losses

Still it is a shame to see the UK less involved also in security matters but I am sure May will strike a special deal also for this Very Happy

The move comes amid concerns over such a facility being located in a non-EU country. Even if the U.K. stays in the Galileo program, like Norway or Switzerland, non-EU member countries are excluded from participating in security aspects.

The ultimate irony-the bloke who did more than anyone to get us out of Europe and into this unholy mess we are in now wants to build a bridge across to France.

Actually, my job is impacted.
Well over half of my earnings over the past 20 years has come from other EU states.
I have, since the vote, pushed my horizons wider (well, the focus at least, seeing as I've already worked in Russia, Africa, India, Middle East & GCC and Australia) and it is likely that most of my income the next couple of years will be coming from Asia.

'Improvise, Adapt and Overcome' as the US Marines might say. Wink

So you are the only UK employee who will be left home because of the move to Spain

You seem to select the quotes considering what you want to say more than what the context of the quote was
Still I am glad you can maintain your income intact and hope it will be the same for any other UK citizen

I don't know if I can maintain my income.
It could go down a lot; it could go up a lot; or it could stay about the same.
I don't know, but I will react to the circumstances...much like the employee at the Galileo data centre will.
I'm sure he'll be fine...he can do the job of 30 Spanish! Wink

Sorry didn't realise that everything is hunky dory. Govt in stasis over negotiations with EU, farmers, health service, construction all wondering what to do about future labour requirements. This before we even know what financial consequences are going to be for the country and our world leading financial sector.

Oh did I forget the population still split over in or out.

One of us needs to watch the news or read a quality newspaper a bit more and it ain't me.
