I know, some simply like the look of it,...but why mount something that is not fitting properly, ...is reducing the clearance for about 5 cm, and not resisting at all the smallest obstacle.
Maybe a stone, or a ford mondeo, t-boning the parked car, as mentioned above.

Just thought id follow up on this... it took me a while to get around to sorting my side steps but finally did them over the weekend. In the end I did go for the non OEM ones off of ebay ... i got under the car and could see that my existing steps were not original either as the plastic had clearly been cut by hand to mount the brackets. I went for the cheapest I could find (£97 delivered), working on the assumption that if i paid more from another seller id get the same steps, there cant be many places making these! ... well i was really impressed when they arrived, they are really well put together and went on no bother especially as i decided to use the old brackets! getting the old steps off was 90% of the job .. they were totally rusted through.

OE steps are dealer fit and the quality of cutting the plastic does vary considerably. So your steps may well have been genuine ones. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Is it worth paying for Bearmach side ‘steps’ (not bars) as cost wise they seem to sit in the middle between the cheap ebay and oem , are they any better fit wise?

As a summary - what is the virdict on OEM (second hand from a scrappy) or fleebay cheap side bars? And, is there really any difference between the fleebay £99 and fleebay £180? There can't be many producing the OEM replicas or can there? It sounds the cheap ones might have to be persuaded to sit straight but other than that?
