Starting error - Or is it normal? |
|
Here's the dilema...
After a drive I park up and switch the engine off. Handbrake on etc...... I then decide to sit in the car for 10 or 15 minutes doing a bit of paperwork.
If I then try to restart the car, without getting out, it will not start. The ignition comes on but nothing happens (& yes my foot is on the brake). The ignition stays on for only a short period and then switches off by itself.
The only way that I can restart is to press LOCK and UNLOCK on the fob. It will then restart as usual.
I've never had this with any other car before. Seems a bit odd to me.
Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

Hi,
No, that is not normal. I reckon it could be a marginal/faulty brake switch. As yours is under warranty, I'd get it looked at by the dealer.
FWIW, my brake switch was replaced when my D4 was 6 weeks old!
Cheers,
Rob

Thanks Jonesy63,
I'm glad you agree. I'm actually off to the Dealer tomorrow for another visit to sort out other numerous warranty issue's. I'll add this one to the list too!
Yesterday it wouldn't start at all when i was sat in it! I had to get out, lock it, unlock it and then I was away!
With security like this I'm suprised any get stolen at all!
Thanks again..

I sometimes get a similar issue, and the only way I get it to restart is to keep the start button pressed, release the brake and then reapply it.
Happened about 2-3 times over the last 3 years. Tends only to happen when sat in the car with the doors open/engine off. I suspected it was a low battery, but that seems to be fine.
Never bothered to get it looked at as to recreate it is not really that easy.
