Off side driveshaft removal query |
|
Hi all,
I have read all the posts regarding offside driveshaft removal (D4 2011), but a part is still not clear.
I know I remove the hub etc, top ball joing and then knock the outer end through the hub.
BUT, how do I get the inner end out of the diff? Some say just pull, but some also say that there is a special tool, others that its a , someone else mentioned a circlip or something.
Could someone provide some detail regarding the removal and reinsertion of the diff end please?
Thanks!
Phil

another quick, and no doubt stupid, question.
The only reason I need to change it, is that when I changed the wheel bearing, I damaged the thread where the hub nut goes on. It went on eventually, but only with impact wrench type of persuasion.
Now, after only 2 or 3000 miles, I have a noise that sounds like the start of the wheel bearing again.
Could it be going due the damaged thread issue?
Or have I just got a bad one (Timkin is what I fitted).
Anyway, the actual question is, can I spilt the driveshaft and just replace the outer bit (hub end)? (I have a spare one)

Well, that all depends on how difficult it is to split the outer shaft off!
