according to the service record all the belts have been replaced and the oil pump
however just after purchase it developed a major oil leak from the front crank seal so i have replaced that and renewed the belts again to be sure

£320 was just for the Turbo (re-manufactured) from Turbocare 24 in Sheffield
i fitted it myself, pain in the ass job but once you have done it once its pretty straight forward really
2 brothers run it seem like a decent pair of guys came with all seals bolts etc

agree what lynall said ref checking that the gearbox oil level is ok , wasn’t the same company who diagnosed the turbo was it

sorry to hear the turbo didn’t make any difference and can just imagine it was a Censored to replace

don’t know if this oil level info may be of use to u

https://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/us..._level.pdf

also a gearbox fault sheet

thanks for the info sheets really helpful and really appreciated, i will check fluid levels tomorrow when i finish work
The gear box fault sheet mentions rear brake lights? my rear lights have been replaced with LED D4 lights, surely this wouldn't be affecting the vehicle giving the issues it has?
if the fluid is low would this cause the issues its having?
will a flush and refill of the gear box possibly solve the issues without having to fork out about a grand for a new converter etc?
how difficult is it to change a torque converter ?
sorry lots of questions
really appreciate all your guys reply's and info
thanks

for info
i brought the vehicle off ebay from a company near reading called Sterling cars, an auction house
paid £7200 for it, looked assume and drove ok when on the test drive, we had a proper good look at the vehicle and although there were a few bits to sort like driver heated seat not working it seemed like a pretty good truck 141k on the clock with pretty good service history
however once i got it home and started sorting stuff out and having a proper good detailed look at it, it is quiet clear that it has not been looked after or maintained to a decent standard
i think i got stung to be honest, tried to return the vehicle but they said it was advertised as "needing some repairs" so they would not take it back
steer clear of Sterling cars is the lesson in all that
i still have my trusty 110 defender, the purchase of the D3 was supposed to be a replacement for my defender that would not require so much maintenance as i have a spinal injury so working on the trucks is painful in more ways than just in

my wallet

This was an interesting thread ... which does not conclude unfortunately
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/turbo-rattl...p;start=30

Just to get another easy (before concluding it the turbo) item out of the way ... have you cleaned or better still replaced the MAP sensor?

Need to get the codes read.

hi guys
so i checked the gearbox oil level, tried to follow the procedure detailed in the document kindly provided although i do not have the capacity to test the temp of the gear box
started the vehicle from cold left idling for around 15 mins, as instructed moved the gears through R and D pausing for a min or so in each gear, the checked the level
no oil coming out of the fill plug
to be honest the condition and tightness of the fill plug leaves me to think that maybe the oil and filter have not been changed as detailed in the service record
What would be the next step? fill the box with oil to see if the problem stops and if it does carry out a flush and oil/filter change or is it a new converter?

Also checked the MAP sensor and it was totally gunked up with black greasy residue, in fact the housing it plugs into is also badly gunked up with the same black greasy residue, which could be seen by removing one of the EGR blanking plates
Is it possible to remove this housing to clean it out without removing the intake manifolds?

Thanks

I've seen Sterling cars sell a lot of nice looking cars on ebay. Ok so I have never inspected them,...

But what do to expect when buying a 10 year old car, at action, on ebay ??? and sold as needing work? But at least it wasn't expensive.

Do the same process you’ve done so far, when you remove the fill plug, just top up with new oil until you get oil dribbling out. Then take if for a spin (with the filler plug back in place of course!)

hi mate

u need to buy a cheap thermometer , something like this will do the job as the temp is critical,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handheld-LCD-Di...SwjJRZd0Ro

as the egrs blanked do u know if the butterfly valve was also removed , when i cleaned out my map sensor i used some map cleaner spray , don’t be tempted to put a screwdriver etc down the hole, i did use the spray can tube and sprayed it down the hole and then allowed it to drain, i removed the entire butterfly housing and cleaned it all out , u have to be careful as u can break the body on removal , i also bought some silicone grease , that i put on the rubber o ring on reassembly

there is a thread here that i will find for u and some pics of where i removed my butterfly housing assemble , it was also very dirty and took me a while evening to clean it properly

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/cleaning-el...+butterfly

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/sluggish-20...+butterfly

hope that helps
