Fuel tank lower cradle
Hi a bit of advice please,
The lower fuel tank cradle on my D3 is shot so I have bought a second hand one off a D4,
First, are the 3 and 4 cradles the same,
Second, as any one changed one and any advice on doing it,
Cheers.
Advice...
Ensure you have as little as possible fuel in the tank before starting,
Take lots of pictures,
Make loads of notes,
And type it all up for us to read LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

So my reading of Microcat may be wrong then - it seemed to suggest that a few RRSports may have had it fitted under certain circumstances.
I could only find the one part number across the D3/4 range.

Update
Replaced the cradle the other day and was quite easy really, the hardest bit was the heat guard nuts so removed the heat guard with the cradle, then removed the corroded nuts.
My bit of advice is, remove all bolts apart from the back one(just loosen) and leave one of the double front ones(again loosen the one left)
Now fit a longer bolt to the front one of the double holes (you will see it) about 100mm long.
Remove the old bolt and then lower on to the longer one, now get a ratchet strap feed over the prop shaft, top of the tank, and chassis then feed under the fuel tank and between the cradle that front of the tank, tighten then remove long bolt, the rear of the tank is held really by the filler pipe.remove rear bolt then it's off
Here is a picture of the new and old cradles.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have to replace what's left of my fuel tank cradle and I was looking for some help.
How do I stop the fuel tank falling out when I take the old cradle off to replace it? I have about 3/4 of a tank of fuel! Do I need to empty it?

Thanks Mike.
Do I just undo the bolts and juggle the tank while replacing the cradle or is there something else I need to do?

wow ! I wasn’t happy with the “little bit of surface rust” mine has. Didn’t realise they were getting like this. Saying that I’ve owned lots of D1’s so I shouldn’t be surprised that these are now starting to show the rot.Jarrod

Hi, like put in my reply, if you put a ratchet strap between the tank and the cradle, tighten then remove the cradle, the tank should hold up whilst removing the cradle
