Look at spares prices before considering anything with a K series engine.
The proper kit for the head gasket also includes new head bolts as they pass right through the head and block and screw into the main bearing caps.

200tdi now getting thin on the ground, but without a shadow of a doubt one of the best old school engines out there, I have two so may be biased!

I may have to eat humble pie, whole gasket kit is seriously cheap, 41.20 cheap delivered!

Few years ago now, but I spent a couple of days at the LR Training School at Gaydon, doing an abbreviated version of the 200tdi / 300tdi / LT77 / R380 familiarisation courses. We stripped and rebuilt one of each over the course of two days. At that time, LR had long since stopped doing mechanics courses on such ancient machines, and the instructor had to trawl a few local scrapyards to find us a 200tdi to work on Laughing

Very sad, very anorak way to spend a couple of days off work - we all had a great time Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

(It was all organised by a friend for the Camel Trophy Owners Club, and a few of us lesser mortals tagged along.)

A Series Land Rover 2.25 petrol is a joy to work on. I rebuilt mine, and it was very satisfying when it ran 1st turn of the key.

If your going to start reboring cylinders, or regrinding cranks, it’s going to be mildly expensive on any engine.

The rebuild of the 2.25 (also the 200/300tdi) ,you need nothing more than a decent set of spanner’s, sockets screw drivers a lump hammer and a torque wrench.

If you want to borrow my engine stand, let me know.

Subaru EJ20 engines are good to work on, very straight forward in my opinion.
