The petrol V8 starts, gets warm and burbles along without any issues.

The Volvo with its diesel engine does benefit from a FBH and winter type diesel (different feeezing point, etc.) - starting the FBH can be done remotely from the cell phone Thumbs Up

The coolant is rated for roughly -35 (or -34 or -36) degrees.

So it's bloody cold when on Auto or manual settings, I very rarely use auto, but yesterday was on manual at 28 and cool air coming out, but very hot when it moves to high

Gareth, I have one of those temp voltmeter things, will stick it in the car and monitor things

All I have on the glass is a dashcam, so but it's off tot he left side (looking out) of the wing mirror, not sure where the temp sensor is??? Question

I've also got a problem with front parking sensor, so will ask them to check heating when it goes in Thumbs Up

Sounds exactly the same as my folks' MY16 Landmark. It's had the "fix" which hasn't changed it that much. Completely useless for a car that cost fifty odd grand. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Sensor is behind the little grille next to the steering wheel colum. On LHD it would be on the right side of it. I assume on RHD, being mostly a mirror-copy, it’ll be on the left side of the column.

I find the auto climate control very good, I never have to touch it although I wish it had 20.5deg as sometimes 21 is just a little much and 20 just a little too cold. I remember once leaving high up in the Pyrenees when it was just above freezing in the morning and not touching the control until I arrived at a campsite south of Barcelona some time later and had a shock when I stepped outside the car and it was over 30deg.

SWMBO does complain however when she sits in the back with the girls in their car seats that her feet are freezing; the system must keep the floor vent output quite cool compared to the face vents.

For what its worth, our D3 is exactly the same. Every other car I drive with auto climate I leave at 21/22 and it just works. In the D3 I have to turn it up to 25 and even then, it begins to blow cold after a bit.

I'm also now driving round with it on full hot and manual fan set to 1. I've got bits of the dash apart as I've been fixing the IPACK issue I had so may change the temp sensor whilst I have the opportunity.

It used to work much better.
 Cheers,

Gareth

Turn the heating off at home and you will never complain about the disco heating again AND save loads of money Mr. Green

Has anyone tried covering the sunlight sensor?

Same with mine, on Auto doesn’t get hot, cannot get anything but cold air out the facia vents, turn it to manual, works well, hot air out the facial vents, feet get hot back to Auto to cool down.

There is supposedly a fix (tsp) at the dealers under warranty where they insert a piece of foam around a sensor. Most feedback seems to indicate it doesn't work.

The D4 issue is self-heating of the cabin thermistor. Those with relatively short journeys will find the system good and accurate. Those driving for an hour or more will find themselves nudging up the dial to compensate for the increasingly over-reading interior sensor. Eventually you run out of adjustments and it will get cold.

It can be fixed, but apparently not by JLR.

How about just taking that cover beside the steering wheel off and stuffing around the sensor with tissues or something? Basically it'll then get its heat from the surrounding plastic & tissues rather than air flow.

That's exactly my situation. This week the trips have been 1 hour + every time.

Exactly where does the sensor live?

If i understand Robbie correctly it's lack of airflow around the sensor that lets it heat up due to passing current

Little window in the trim to left of the steering wheel.

Ah see what you mean Del, pull that part of the plastic off and stuff it with tissues?

You going to try it first? Whistle
