Who joined back in 2006 Question ... Very Happy

I joined 31 Jan 2006 and have been totally awed by the respectful, helpful and sharing nature of Martin's D3 forum. "Well done that man" to quote the English.

As long as my D3 lasts (I mean 'survives') I will remain active on the forum contributing what I can. Along the way I have noticed subtle changes to the site as some 'older' original owner forum members have left or upgraded (>D4>D5) but been replaced by second-hand purchasers of the most amazing 4x4 by far.

Regrettably, my joy was shattered by a major engine failure (bearings) in 2013 but the engine was replaced by me as I could not see any other replacement on the market at the time. Of course I felt new owners' grief as they discover the 'joys' of this electronically complex vehicle (with some major mechanical surprises lurking as well). However any new owner can get the full background on the Discoverys 3 and 4 and armed with that and an IID BT can have a great experience.

For all who visit this site may they get just half the pleasure I have had (and continue to have) with my D3.

This photo says it all for me - late afternoon in Mareeba FNQ (inland from Cairns) after a just a few years of ownership. I had just towed a 3 t offroad caravan about 1500 km up the Queensland coast with free camping along the way... Ah, the memories.

The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

I joined in November 06. We’d had the car for more than a year by then and I’d lurked for awhile before joining. I’ve had some good advice, met lots of lovely people along the way either at events or through the courier network and enjoyed the banter on the site.

Had the D3 for 11 years before trading in for a newer model. Still smile when I get behind the wheel!
