I was called out the other week to the same problem on a London taxi, the driver telling me fuel was leaking from the fuel filter, I assumed it would just need a quick nip up and all would be well, often happens that they vibrate loose. When I got to the vehicle the driver explained he had started it from cold pulled of his drive and drove about 60 yards down the road when the vehicle suddenly died, he tried restarting it but no joy he then see diesel all over the road. When I inspected the filter fuel was just pouring out the sensor, I replaced the filter and left the manual drain tap in the bottom as I don’t carry a spare one, never ever coming across this problem before, yes I’ve changed plenty of faulty sensors but never a leaking one. This sensor like yours had clearly given up as there was no sign of leak on the road or driveway, no problem starting either, until it decided to drop its fuel 60 yards up the road, until I witnessed this I would have never believed it possible, all I’m saying is maybe it was a faulty sensor as was this one.
