Been looking at so many d3s but not even one of them has had the oil pump changed...
What would the roigh cost be of a new oil pump fitted by a mechanic ?
Theres so many nice cars out there , starting ro think im going to have to buy one and have the pump changed myself

Yeap that's correct.
Best senario would be a car due for a cambelt change, and knock money off because of this.
Then get the belt and pump done together yourself

When I bought mine, although not expressly covered by the failed pump for peace of mind I had both belts and the pump changed.
One less thing to worry about and all good for the next 7 years.

He has a point about forums, but a few hundred quid spent to potentially save a few thousand has got to be a good sales pitch in anyones eyes?

well who is going to take a 10 year old car with a broken engine to a dealer, so how would they know?
Easy for him to say, he's not going to have to pay out £1000's if it breaks

I had ALL the recommended preventative maintenance done including oil pump and the crankshaft still went bang so personally I wouldn't get too hung up on it

Some things you can prevent against
Other things you can't.
Want to reduce the probability if it doesn't cost loads

As an 07 vehicle we had ours done a few months back just in case. The technical director at our dealer was aware of the possible issue with these pumps.
I think it cost us around 850 which also included the front belt changing again. I though that was reasonable for a main dealer. MY16 D4 Landmark SDV6 (The Ice Maiden)
