My dipstick has snapped off inside the tube, can’t get anything in there to remove the bit left.
Looks like it’s gonna need the whole tube removing to either pull or push the other bit out.
From pictures of new tubes it looks to be just a push fit into the sump, but I’m sure it’s not that simple.
Can the tube be removed and refitted without having to remove the sump or half the engine?
Some people on tinternet say they’ve done it without removing sump, others says it a 100% sump off job.
Fecking hate this car atm, nothing but issues for the last month.

how far down the tube has it broken ? wondering if one of those screwdrivers with a screw-holder end may give you enough grip to pull it up ?

Pretty far down, I pulled to loop and only the loop and about and inch of plastic came with it. Can’t get long nose pliers in there.. I’d be worried about pushing it even further in trying to get something in there to grab it.

I can tell you its a lot easier to remove the sump than remove the dip stick tube!
sump seal is reusable
So I would get some fresh oil for an oil change and get the sump off. 8mm socket required.
drain oil first!

Yeah I’ve got the oil for oil change already as it’s due. Trouble is, it has a major oil leak as well which it needs to go into a garage for, so no doubt they’ll probably end up draining it too. Double oil change
At least the oil is cheap at the moment.
Other issue is I have no clue how much oil is in there now.. it’s been sat all week unused due to the leak. I gotta get it 40 miles to the garage next week for that and all the other work that needs doing.
I’ve ordered a new dipstick and tube, so might do it and an oil change before it goes in if I get time.

Have got one of those somewhere. Not sure it would have grip to pull the dipstick out as it’s always been quite tight. Probably why its now broken. Might be worth a try though.

Sounds easy.. except I have health issues which sometimes prevent me from rolling around under the car messing around with sumps and my air suspension keeps flashing up normal height only which means I can’t actualy get under the car do it anyway
Took me two weeks to recover from changing the alternator. Absolute agony.
I haven’t used it all week due to the oil leak, I was waiting until the new year to take it into one of my local indies to fix all the issues. Don’t know why I even checked the oil, just did it as habit when I popped the bonnet to stick the ctek on there.
So the list now stands at, all of which has happened in the last week or two
Oil leak find and fix
Dipstick tube and dipstick replace along with oil change
Front valve block or wiring issue find and fix
And the epb threw a fit last time I drove it too, just to top it off the MOT is mid January.
Tis the season to be jolly.. and bankrupt it seems.

let the garage sort it then
it's probably got enough oil, unless its leaking lots when parked
you can always add a little half way along your trip

What I do is drill a small hole to where the plastic is in the tube and then use a needle point podger to slowly lever it up through the hole, it takes time but have done a few this way. Then just stick some silcone over the hole.. a 3mm hole is enough to do it.
Feck taking the sump off
