Inlet manifold symptoms/diagnosis? |
|
Bought a 2010 D4 6-speed a couple weeks ago (privately), and last week I got a “Restricted Performance” message. There was no difference in power and when I next started the car it was gone. I got the same error today, and without an IID tool I had to get the codes read at a dodgy garage in Hounslow. The only (notable) errors were about some lost signal from the parking sensors which I do t think could be related?
When replacing the engine cover the technician noticed oil and some tearing on the underside, which leads me to think it’s the inlet manifold 😭 I’ve had real close look around the engine bay in line with the oil on the cover and I can’t even see any oil there let alone a leak. The oil on the cover is pretty fresh and still wet (I wonder if the technician is pulling a sneaky one on me?) I’m gonna book a smoke test this week, but I could really do with not forking our £1500 when Ive only just bought the thing!
Are there any other symptoms I should be looking out for? Can I still drive it in the meantime?

A faulty filter housing will cause RP to be displayed, without a loss in power
Though you will need to have the codes read properly from the PCM, and ideally, a smoke test to confirm/eliminate any boost leaks My D3 Build Thread

Took it to Keith Gott in Alton today for them to diagnose. Looks like @Disco Mikey was right - there’s air in the fuel system according to the fault code so needs a new fuel filter housing.
Is that something I can do myself?
