Whilst I understand what you are saying, I don’t think all the new “fancy” tech is necessarily better.
Some of the procedures to change temps etc on these fancy screen type setups it’s ridiculous and borderline dangers.
A lot of the design seems to be change, for changes sake. What’s wrong with a knob to change the temperature.

Just my 2 cents.....
I bought my D4 because it does everything required and pretty much nothing else did (load space, go anywhere, 7seats, ride height, safety, operating switches etc in gloves, split loading door with seat, room for a 98kg Irish Wolfhound). Others will have it for towing. It’s also nice to drive and comfortable. I can understand that if the utilitarian aspects of the car aren’t so important then being modern and fresh climbs up the scale of criteria to judge it by.
Having said that, when I looked at other cars before purchasing (June 2015) the Discovery was much more modern and fresh by comparison! (XC90, Toyota Landcruiser, Nissan Pathfinder).
I’m with robpenrose on this, a lot of ‘modern-ness is about semantics not real improvements. On the other hand having Lane departure warning, road sign recognition, self parking, autonomous emergency braking etc etc are modern improvements worth having if they work properly. Oh,......and an engine that runs on hydrogen of course!
CheersGary

I much prefer my discovery to my evoque.
Tech doesn't bother me past mp3 player in the car now so I don't miss anything else.
Except the air conditioned seats in the ffrr that I had.
SteveYou remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!

I’ve had discos for 15 years, the last was pretty much the last of the 4s, I just fancied something else for a change and I couldn’t face a D5Joined the BMWX5 45e group

More tech, more to go wrong. I'm very happy with mine, does everything I need to do with bluetooth media streaming and hands free for the phone, sat nav.

Had the Lexus Nx hybrid as loan car for two weeks and found it way advanced to my D4 had every extra going I could want but was it a £42k car ? No it wasn't .But I would as a second hand car.
Even wife said lovely car but missed driving the alrounder Disco as a perfect car for all weather's etc..
That's why I've paid out warranty as it's aLR and really for the first time actually side use of it as it looked like over £3k bill for gearbox /selector issues..
