There before it was suggested that due to the leak it could be low on oil.
Had leak repaired and gearbox serviced.

Thks paul, Thumbs Up

So would be tempted to

Check all the steering wheel wiring and rotary connector
TCM module behind the battery

Pondering if maybe checking ur canbus might help or not , but at least doing the above u can rule it out or not , bought mine as a project and it came with a multitude of errors including cruise control issues etc , I ended up spending time inspecting / testing various items etc , also invaluable having diagnostics , multimeter and other testers

Along with the others Hope that may help , Please let us know how u get on

I would try a hard reset. The only times I have experienced this is when going down a very steep slope and the gearbox has very cleverly held a low gear until I have accelerated past the pull of gravity, this means the gearbox software has limitations built in to allow this, also the gears are restricted when the oil is cold to assist in getting the oil up to temperature in cold weather, 6th gear on the D3 will not be selectable until gear oil is up to temperature.
Next time it does it check the readout on the dash to see if you are in Sport or Auto.
In the meantime you can always change up by using sport mode and then change back to manual.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for all your input, I’m going to try a few of your suggestions starting with the steering controls.
I will post again with the results.

What are your tyres like they need to be simular in circumfrance so you need the same size tyres all round with simular tread depth

Same tyres all round. But had new front tyres fitted earlier this year? 4mm difference in depth front to rear.

Hi M3DPO tried flicking from drive to sport and back again and my gears start to work again? This seems to work for a while then have to do it again but at least it’s drivable. Thanks.

4MM difference is enough to cause problems

Update
I have changed the other 2 tyres so now no size difference.
Still have the same issues.
Brake switch replacement.
Still have the same issues.
I have however now had a fault code come up this is to do with the steering controls and the cruise control system. So this is my next point of call.

When the problem occurs, try placing your foot under the brake pedal and lifting, i.e. pull it with your foot towards you.
I once had the exact symptoms as yours and the brake pedal was slow to rise and so would not press the brake switch plunger fully.

Also, if you can, get someone to drive behind you and check if your brake lights are not on permanently. Or stay on after you've braked.

My disco was having a bad day today didn’t want to change up 1st to 2nd had to keep flicking into sports then back again this worked fine for a while then the dashboard lit up hdc fault and a brake warning light . Warning said hdc not available. Ok fine but now my gearbox is working correctly smoothly changing in all gears it’s a shame to turn it off I like having a working gearbox.
