Glow Plugs. Recomendations please |
|
anyone got any recommendations of anywhere to have removed, closer to Leicester the better please? Old girl struggling in the morning
thanks
My normal specialist doesn't touch them anymore due to amount breaking and the trouble of trying to extract. Concerned that a £2k bill for glow plug removal not making sense. Hopefully someone has had done with a good degree of success...

I know people say this “just get a remote fbh” rather than change glowplugs.
I’ve tried it both ways.
Trust me a remote heater is a much cheaper and better option. Even if it isn’t the factory way

Until there is an emergency, and you can't leave for 20 minutes, until the FBH has warmed up...
Glow plugs are guilty for snapping, but with the correct equipment, removal needn't be a huge drama
I'd rather have a car i can jump into, turn the key, and it starts, whatever the weather My D3 Build Thread

Had all 6 of mine changed this spring, probably for the first time in 12 years. No problem. Just make sure you find someone with the right tools and experience, and be prepared to pay for more hours than the maintenance manual stipulates. The trick is not to rush it and proceed very carefully. But it definitely can be done.

Fingers crossed. Googled up a place in Birmingham and they have done them for Stratstone Main Dealers but they really don't like doing. Would be tempted that if front four came out which i think are a lot easier access then live with that. Need to have vehicle so can just get in and use anytime of day or night as on farm. In reality when the engine was swapped while back when span shells in crank and seized engine should have been done then as a matter of course but wasn't. School boy error on my part and possibly should have been suggested by workshop.... Will let you know how get on

Update.
Disco went into CR Auto Engineering in Birmingham. Turns out they do glow plug removal for the Landrover Main Dealer as they don't want to touch them due to the known difficulty in getting them out. 1 glow plug was working out the 6 so not surprising that cold start was shocking. 2 came out ok and 3 snapped and had to be extracted. Cost was £600 all in. She now starts instantly in the cold and stay of execution of the old girl now.
Company was great and I was kept informed throughout. Very knowledgeable company who know what doing. Just need a new heated front screen now........
