OvalAutos : I only read in a hurry on the gov website for travel advice to Switzerland... but read enough to move our overnight stop from a hotel in Geneva to one over the border in France, but my take on it was that if you weren't stopping (overnight, like we were) and if you were just passing through (like you are) then you don't need to isolate in Switzerland en route to France.

if the likes of Standard & Telegraph are correct looks like skiers landing at Geneva for French ski resorts won’t have to isolate.

Section from Telegraph:

Skiers are facing the worst of the suspense. After the bad news of Switzerland imposing compulsory quarantine on British visitors, the good news is that it was confirmed this week that skiers landing in Geneva could continue straight on to the French Alps. But we will have to remain on tenterhooks in the hope that restrictions do not spread beyond Switzerland, and that Austrian resorts reopen after the national lockdown there ends on December 13 (or December 17 in Upper Austria).

FCO sez same. Thumbs Up https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/s...quirements

There is no quarantine requirement for travellers arriving in Switzerland from the UK who wish to travel onward to another country, as long as travel through Switzerland is less than 24 hours and does not involve a stopover. More detail is in this ordinance updated on 30 November 2021 (in German). There is no quarantine requirement for those in transit airside at the airport.

Expect the unexpected. Whistle

From 00:00 CET 4 December (23:00 GMT 3 December), fully vaccinated travellers (aged 12 years or over) travelling from outside of the European Union to France must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result from either a PCR or antigen test. Tests must be taken no more than 48 hours before travel for vaccinated travellers and no more than 24 hours before travel for those who are not fully vaccinated. Self-administered tests are not accepted. HGV and van drivers arriving in France from the UK are not required to provide a negative COVID-19 test to enter France. Consult the French Embassy in the UK website and the French government’s website for further information. We will update these pages as soon as further details are confirmed.

Censored
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

As the opening scene of 4 weddings - 'Fxxx, Fxxx, Fxxx, Fxxx, Fxxx'.

On the upside, I now have -

a Land Rover with
a new steering column
a new petrol tank tray
a new battery
a momentary switch for the coolant sensor
a new rear tow bar cover
a new front lower panel
a new intercooler hose
a set of four new tyres
a set of snow chains
a change of oil
a change of oil filter
a pair of roof rails
a pair of roof rack cross bars
a top box
a pair of top box keys
a pair of UK number plate stickers

oh, and a useless channel crossing and accommodation in the Alps for six.

Doesn't get much better than that.
 Everything's a hammer.

In a similar boat (no pun intended) albeit mine is late March and I'm still not convinced that's far enough out. Have (had?) an option for early Feb as well but have binned that off in my head so just need to square it with the owners of the property.
