A quick update, I've run out of time so given up for now to work on plan B for holiday transport!
There was little or no difference with the inlet and exhaust pipes connected. There was no obvious blow back from the exhaust, however I swapped exhaust valves from another old pump with no improvements.
I then jumped the compressor straight from a spare battery to give me a chance to go around again with soapy water. No loud hissing noises, no bubbles.
I then put everything back as it should be, ran the car and compressor, resetting the "slow to pressurise" fault each time it occurred. This got a bit of air back into the system, switching from raise to lower evened the car up but it failed to raise much higher than access position.
At this point I tried service mode on the IID, the car would not raise individual corners when selected - this in itself leads me to think that the compressor is goosed.
I'll get some blanks and test gear in due course and persevere. Not such a Disco Newbie now!

Well, after much angst, I bit the bullet and bought a new Hitachi pump. A quick bench test showed it did output significantly more pressure than the Dunlop pump that came off. I was surprised to see that it came with a plastic drier lid though, given the problems that seem common with them.
Once on the car, it was massively quieter than the old Dunlop, even without the soundproofing cover, and the car pumped itself up in a jiffy. So hopefully, this is the probelm solved. I'll plug the IID in over the next few days to check the pressures and maybe do a recalibration when I have time.
Thanks for all of your help! Not such a Disco Newbie now!
