D3 FAULTS OIL IN COOLANT???!! |
|
HinFolks
Got a D3 2007 TDV6 HSE 151,300 Mls.
All running well !!!
However, went to check COOLANT tank to top up,
noticed some black engine oil in the header.
Dosnt look massive amount but a tad disconcerting.
Serviced n DEC MOT etc emissions fine and no white
smoke from exhaust. Power, economy, drive all seem
OK.
No loss of coolant or water in oil (dipstick) only.
Any of the experts got any ideas to check please!!!
Many thanks

Figure out where it comes from
One common thing is the oil cooler, which is integrated into the radiator, leaks oil into the coolant.

gearbox oil cooler in Rad.
Engine oil cooler is in the top of the engine, infront of the oil filter and would be more common a fault

I had same issue a while back, it was the oil cooler given up.
Fairly straightforward job, but, I would advise getting it down sooner rather than a later as getting the oil out of the cooling system is a real pain and takes an awful lot of time and effort! 2005 Disco3 HSE Auto š

HI
Thanks for your input, ordered a new one and gasket last night.
Will check oil level and water before use and keep to a minimum.
Thanks again , always great help from D3 owners, i think we
need it.
Was watching the crazy Germans on LR Time on you tube last
night, very useful info on oil pump and crank failures!!!
More reasons to get a Toyota!!
Cheers

Hi Folks
Well got the oil cooler replaced, glad i didnt attempt it.
Strip down wasnt to bad , Same problem Shane in Aus had with
plastic clips at rear with the pressure hoses broke.
Also injector feed was looking very suspect when stripped down
so replaced with relays.
Had a software remap as well.
Running really well now, great acceleration and smooth gear change.
THanks for all help and input, much appreciated, and kept out of main
dealers clutches!!!
Cheers
