Urgent Help Wanted near Bodmin squealing brakes |
|
Hi all,
I had front and rear brakes pads fitted around 3 months ago.
I've just done a 300mile journey to Cornwall from East Sussex and the front brakes are making a terrible squealing noise.
Is there anyone local who can have a look for me as I want to make sure they are safe before I travel back on Friday 25th August.
There is another issue I cannot find the locking wheel nut. I would have no problem if the person who helps me out can just brake them off.
I am happy to pay for the work.
Many thanks

Worth checking there is nothing embedded in a front pad - I had a road chipping caught in one of mine and it was getting further in as I braked - braking in reverse in a supermarket car park a few times popped it out Must stop buying shiny toys....

Damn sorry DinkysMr, looking at the time, I was driving through Bodmin on my way home from a week down there, would have stopped off to take a look.
Let us know if you got it sorted, get the wife to stand outside to try and see which brake is making the noise, could be as above, or a calliper sticking, I had 3 go in the space of a week, guess they have a pretty accurate use life. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Just a polite reminder that these brake discs can get extremely hot, DO NOT TOUCH THEM IF YOU’VE BEEN DRIVING or you will have another emergency. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I’m sure he’s just trying to enjoy Cornwall and get himself sorted along the way! Hope everything is OK for him - nothing worse than a car that lets you down whilst on holiday Must stop buying shiny toys....

I'd suggest that a firm kick in the nuts is worse. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I think Moo must be correct.
It's a shame that DinkysMr hasn't update this thread, but at least the urgency has probably gone away.

Came here looking for an update.
Mine has started doing it now
Goes away when I get moving properly- unless I'm just not hearing it then? - and doesn't change if I apply more pressure on the brakes.
SWMBO checked as I drove slowly in a carpark and it's just offside rear making the noise.
Wheels all same temp according to my calibrated hand, so unlikely to be brake sticking on.
Will try braking and reversing later today. .

This only applies to the rear brakes.
Inside the rear brake drum there are spring clips that hold the brake shoe to the stationary back plate, these spring clips can fail through age allowing the brake shoe to rub on the rotating disc, I made a temporary/permanent repair on mine with an ordinary expansion spring. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
