Doing 70+ MPH in the fast lane, see out the corner of my eye an 8" piece of wood flying through the air from the other side of the freeway - heading straight for me at window height.
I just ducked - thinking it was coming in through the side window.
HUGE BANG!
I raise my head, and realize I'm still in one piece - windows are still there!
Look at my wing mirror, and see the mirror is now shattered, but the housing looks ok.
Pull off at the next junction - get out expecting the worst
Can't believe it - I have slight scuff marks on my mirror housing, and a cracked mirror
That's it!

Well done, cd! Good escape.
I know the feeling - my brother's caravan stabiliser came off (the type that is half a leaf-spring with a friction-pad on the pivot). I was following him @ 60mph on the M5 motorway (middle lane), when from under his caravan out bounced and spun this 20 pound short javelin!
I had to wait to see which way it was flicking / spinning, with my dodging manoeuvre potential limited by traffic either side and a caravan in tow which would not like a twitchy tail-flicking dodge.
I got it right and the thing hit the Mantec plate (all hail JMC!) and went under car and caravan - the plate carries a battle scar, but no other damage The oil cooler would have bought it without the plate...
I think I flicked the object up into the path of a truck, but I was a bit to busy to concentrate on my mirrors...

Not in this car, but I've also been hit on the roof by a lage lump of wood (kindly dropped off a motorway bridge by scrotes) a few years back - left a dent 6 inches behind the top of the windsceen - I considered myself about a foot from death
Must be me - I've also been shot at (probably only an air-rifle) whilst driving a car,an old Ford Cortina - this was I was driving down Ordsall Lane in Salford about 20 years ago Heard an almighty metallic tink as I was driving a long - got out someway down the road to see what was up to see a pellet dint in the front wing...Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
SN - I also got shot at driving through Corby - hell of a shock!
Took out my drivers side headlamp and left a bullet hole in the leading edge of the bonnet on my GTi!

Ahh... the good old days...
hunting Cortina's down Ordsall Lane.
You'd never shoot till you could see the whites of their collars.
I can still smell the fear.
That's the trouble with the youth of today,

It's all Grand Theft Auto on their PS's & Wii's now...
