hill starts/handbrake on manual D3
Recently Bought a new D3, and would like a few tips on the use of the electric handbrake on a hill start [manual gearbox]. The handbrake does not have any feel to it, and I find it prone to stalling and rolling back, which can be embarrassing [esp. towing a horse box]. Is there anyone who can give me a few tips on how to overcome this problem?

I too am a recent purchaser, and like you found the handbrake defeated me.
After about a month of ownership, I can't say I'm a convert, but I have learnt to find the bite point with the clutch, and can now make a fairly decent hill start.
To be honest I , and with all of the handbrake problems on the Disco3, I bet LandRover, wished they'd fitted the old fashioned mechanical device.

Yep - I'll be honest I don't use the ParkBrake AT ALL, and I didn't use the traditional hand brake (even tho it was on the wrong side!) on the previous vehicle either unless I was on a steep hill - both cars are auto and I just stick it in Park.Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Or... just slowly release the clutch until you feel the car pull / clutch bite, release brake while gently pressing the go pedal. Just like a manual hand brake only easier
If on a slope with a trailer you could use Low Range and then change to Hi Range when you get going.
To be honest its a bit fo a trick but once you get the feel of the car pulling against the brake you know you can release it and pull away as in a manual hand brake.

The alternative is to start the car in 1st gear with the HDC on! It will not stall and carry you away gracefully! Try this on a flat surface first!2017 Disco5 First Edition(On Order)

just treat it as a normal handbrake get the "bite" on the clutch release the handbrake and off you go its no different on a lorry its on or off and at 44ton up you get hillstarts right otherwise its

took me about a month to get used to it, now it's second nature. Had a freeloader loaner the other week and the handbrake felt sooooo antiquated the thing to remember is that the EPB releases almost immediately, the light only extinguishes when the actuator has completed its movement

Yaeh that fooled me for a while too... as you say 2nd nature and a damn sight easier than the old lever and cable jobs
