How much Off road do you really off road?
A weird title I know but I would like to know who on D3COUK pushes the offroad barrier.
Bearing in mind the cost of ownership is there anyone who drives those tight lanes.
I ask just to make sure I am not verging upon madness.
I am on the look out for a D3 but whilst I'm not into bombholes on P&P sites I would drive that thistle ridden tight lane on Salisbury Plain.
Would I be alone or has someone already done it and posted pictures on the gallery to prove it?
I apologise if this is the wrong section of the forum for this type of offroad question..... But I just have to know, how far would you go regards

Tony, have a look in Slimer, Dom Harvey, AndrewS and my galleries
Personally, i'll go to the point where damage is likely, yep, done the prickly lanes (far end of Ox Drove) and spent many an unhappy hour polishing out the results - but i'd rather do that than explain to Mrs.10 how the dent got there....
In short, I don't want to intentionally damage it, but if it get's scratched and it's my fault.... well the right one did it

10... don't leave me out mate.
Tony,
You can check my gallery too... go off road doing lanes, forest tracks, drops of death (Boughrood) and only avoid the stuff that WILL damage my car or push my confidence.
The D3 will take you further than you thought anyway... get out look back at what you did and be VERY surprised. Best thing is not to look 1st... but thats silly as we all know you should check the terrain before venturing in.
Would recommend MTR's though if you are serious. Wrangler standard fit are pretty good too but will loose traction on the very slippery stuff... MTR's seem to excrete superglue.

Tony, I think the greatest skill to learn is the art of off road driving with the ability to assess and avoid damaging situations.
You will always get scratches, but dents are avoidable most of the time.
I have two vehicles at my disposal, one 40 years old, the other costs 40 grand plus! They are both treasured as a result.
I really get annoyed with myself if I misjudge a situation, and damage something. Last trip in the old LR was extreme, and resulted in slight damage. The last trip in the D3 was not extreme but I still scratched a wheel which will cost more to fix than the steering arm on my 2a!
Bottom line is that there is risk, but its fun. You could wrap it in cotton wool, only from some **** to crash into you and do much more damage than you might do having fun on an off road trip.

I was there too iain Not interested in putting the car in damaging positions any idiot can do that. Most my driving is around fields and forestry tracks when I go shooting or coursing. Funnily enough it is these less exteme areas that I have damaged my car gouging 2 alloys. But like quite a few on here I enjoy driving it off road although mine doesn't have any off road extras and has to be clean Monday morning when I go to see clients.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Pelyma, yes, you too suffered (un)fortunately we don't have any photo's which is why I left you off the list of shame I hate to damage any vehicle as it usually indicates a lack of skill or planning or reading of the terrain, Ox Drove was a cruel drive as it drew us in deeper, thinking things would get better - however, apart from the rock sliders (courtesy of 'happy valley') no lasting damage for anyone, the same can't be said for the @r$eholes that shot past us on the recce days
I have a few scratches, nothing that won't come out with a bit of elbow grease, short of going laning following someone armed with brush cutter and chain saw they're inevitable. Wheels seem to survived very well surprisingly, probably because they're my off-road set so I don't really care if they get scratched and the slightly oversized tyres mean the rim isn't as exposed as normal.
I bought my D3 to push it to the limits (my limits which cut in long before the D3s) off-road so I'm not going to let the fear of a few scratches put me off. Not had any panel damage and I can't see why we should with sensible driving, though it's possible that we may end up in a situation one day when it's unavoidable but I suspect there's a greater chance of it happening in Tesco's carparkThe End

Unfortumately for me, after years of green laning the only damage caused to my vehicle (apart fromt paint scratches) was a knock in the rear bumper at Asda regards

Does no-one use the low tack cling film to prevent these scratches? I bought some from '10' and it is superb, it only leaves plastic trim vulnerable and that can be cheaply repaired if scuffed. I felt a bit silly off-roading with cling film stuck on the car but it did its job and i always carry it with me now.
The 19" alloys seemly really prone to scrapes, I have damaged 2 so plan to fit some MTR's on these rims and get a new second set for road use, costly I know but the car just has to be off-roaded, it's so capable. The best bit is seeing the look on peoples faces when you turn up at off-road events in a £30k motor and it goes as well if not better than some of the modified old 'uns. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I'm working on a vinyl protection system for when I'm a D3 owner.
Do you have any pictures of your vehicle with this cling film attached please?regards
