Look, I only write the stuff...
Mind you, it's a good point. I need to fill up tomorrow and I will be passing the Shell garage in downtown sunny Swindon, so I'll have a look.

That's a scary thought - an RRS driver with a fake tan from furniture polish in a thong

I think we'll be the judge of that...

Why? Because most small children scream when they see an RRS?

So far have not seen any real difference between Tescos and the local Shell (tried both). However it makes a big difference somtimes with the BMW120d It goes from 50mpg down to arround 45mpg at Tescos! Performance does not seem to suffer though!

Very annoyed wrote:Are there any products that you can mix with the diesel that help with mpg and wear & tear?
Hi,
Yes they are called diesel additives.
You can buy any number of types in a motorshop
But if you go to discoparts on the web (I am no connection)
They sell the real good stuff, I think its called millers from memory but please don't make me wear thongs if I'm wrong regards

I really can't put a fag paper between any type of diesel. By far the most of my weekly miles is motaway, and i see 30 mpg or better most of the time using the cheap and chearful stuff..
However, I'm one of the 65 ( just keeping away from the trucks ) mph guys who can't see the point of getting from a to b 20 mins quicker by doing 80...
Give me a wave as you zoom past me on the M40 .. ..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

I've tried Shell regular diesel and Shell extra diesel (as it's called in Belgium)
The engine sounds the same, as it doesn't make much noise anyway.
Mileage: about the same, a few kms more on extra it seems.
Price: .10 EUR more / liter for the extra.
So far, driving more relaxed has helped more for the L/100KM or MPG

I always use BP ultimate, performance so much better and I think quieter, than when using the odd tank of something else.
But paid 100.9p tonight!! ouch
"BP Ultimate Diesel has the highest cetane number in the UK at a guaranteed 55 minimum and typically higher. Ordinary diesel sold in the UK has a cetane number of 51" Nov '54' TDV6 SE Manual 25,000 miles - Excellent !! Don't buy an Auto until you have driven a Manual !!!!

Quite often I drive long trips sometimes 3 or 4 tank fills in one trip. I will drive till the tank is empty and fill up to the top and off to go again. Within a few miles of filling, the mpg will change some times for the better sometimes for the worse. I fill up with what’s available when I’m empty. So my experience with fuel is it will make a difference to your mpg if you go for the cheaper stuff. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I've raised this topic again as the other night for the second time I saw a Statoil Truck filling up the tanks at the only Tesco station in Dublin (that I know of). So.......... my question is, based on the information posted above, do I take it that if its in a statoil truck that it is statoil diesel? 2007 MY Irish spec S+ TDV6

NO! Whilst I'm not suggesting that this is absolute, the assumption should not be automatic.
If it were in the UK I could tell you why, but I am not up to speed with regards to wholesale fuel movement in Eire.
