for the first two junctions (half a mile or so) the engine will not give full power so don't expect it until a little bit of heat is there.
There is a noticable difference when pulling away in 2nd or 1st but I would not call it lag as it still steam rollers on even from 2nd.(without any jolts or banging)

maybe needs checking
 It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

The petrol D3s I have and had all do this to some degree. Always when you least expect or need it like pulling out in front of someone. Sport helps - and i feel its the gearbox being slow - given its on the diesels also seems like it could be
