happened to my twin brother while away on holiday.
got to find a letter in the post not to go back to work as they had made him redundant in his absence
Good luck in the new year and enjoy Xmas for what it is Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

Sorry to hear of your situation, I suggest that you seek legal advice, worth an hour of an employmnet lawyer's time.
It's the position they can make redundant, not the person and legally there usually has to be a period of consultation where efforts are made to avoid the individual going, including consideration for redeployment etc.
Whilst we all realise that this is wash, the process has to be followed for staff members, otherwise my first request would be for a compromise agreement, i.e. a cash settlement made without prejudice for the individual to walk away - this is usually a minimum of 6 months wages (depending on other contract terms) and note the first 30k is tax free
Good luck - things are on the up generally and as the saying goes ' as one door slams in your face ............'

exactly what i'm doing dexter the guy that owns the company's father is a coorp contract lawyer in LA so don't really have the time or inclination to go up against them form over here,
However, I am going for a suitably large settlement and as I have the money sat here there really isn't a whole lot they can do about it...
it also seems that the international distributors are suitably hacked off with the US and are supporting me, so far i have 5 country's, the freight people, the factory/ sourcing company all coming with me, very jerry maguire...
just need to decide if i've got the balls to start up my own brand and go head to head, actually just flatten them.. one wife.......livid

Do it AD, you won't regret it, customers much prefer dealing with decent down to earth people than faceless companies and you'll probably find you're much better than you think you are.

Do it I know some guys around here who might be up for helping you out if you need me to put you in contact...although I suspect your contacts are much better then mine, but every little helps...one guy just went through the exact same thing with Volcom. Now he's freelance.
On the plus side...I guess that means you aren't working, now? Me neither as of tomorrow...PLAYTIME

ady,
What a lovely Christmas present Ho Ho F king Ho!!
I worked for an American oil company as staff for nearly 24 years. It tends to be quite difficult for them to get rid of American staff or used to be any way so there was always a tendency to cut over seas first, especially contract personnel. Corporate thinking can change in an instant with no reason other than a new boss may be in the seat.
Sorry to hear the bad news mate and I hope things change for the better very soon.
If there's anything I can do let me know.
And sincerely...f ck them and I hope you manage to have a Merry Christmas despite this cr@p.

Not sure how large your workplace is, but redundancy has to be conducted in a specific process. There HAS to be consultation, you get pay in lieu of notice, payment for years worked etc.
Citizens Advice Bureau is well worth a visit, if the company can't or wont pay the government will in their place. Same thing happened when Evesham Micro's went pop.

cheers for the info pom, slight issue is i was working for an american company so cab and UK government is not really any use,
BUT financially i'm not panicking at present, as mentioned earlier i hold the cards and WILL be getting a good pay out etc etc..
the worry at the moment is that the D3 MAY have to go for something cheaper and to unlock some capital,, hopefully i wont have to cut my arm off,,,, one wife.......livid

They must still uphold the law in the UK, where you were employed.

as previous poster said the owner of the company is irrelevant.
UK law has to be complied with when in the UK.
