Agree, awaiting the insurance would be my worry - where does he stand on this??.
Also, re DNA, nothing to hide no worries.
Well NFU does have off road cover, but would they try n wriggle out
Had my DNA taken, and proud of it. I was assaulted in 2006, somebody after my mobile slashed my face, I got the implement and shoved it into his thigh

I though it was only written of if its been submergered in sea (salt) water. As this was freshwater, a dry out and clean should be OK.

I suppose it's "fresh water" by definition but it's not clean and not really very fresh either, going by the condition of some of my electrical test gear that all got a soaking in the back, most of the electrical stuff (or at least anything that's not very tightly sealed) in the car would need replacing. the seats and carpets will stink forever too.
I've taken some of my gear apart and the amount of corrosion inside is amazing after just 24 hours or so.Clive

Not when it floated, it had no contact with the ground it became a vessel rather than a 4x4

Very true, but to be honest, I wasn't strictly "offroad", I was simply going home from work and went down a proper road marked on the map, it just happened to cross a ford.
Obviously a case where driver judgement has to take a part, unfortunately mine was clearly having an EPB moment at the time.

Is there any "reasonable care" clauses for accidents, like there is with theft? Like if you leave your car running and it is lifted the insurance won't pay out because they deem you have not taken "reasonable care" to avoid the theft. Could they turn around and say "you drove through a ford that is obviously quite deep without checking current flow first when there was another safer way around" (I don't know if there is or not, just hypothetical) and therefore say you hadn't taken reasonable care?
Just a question of course, I'm not pointing blame or finger wagging at the OP's situation

I am sure you will be fine, but it does point out those with lesser Insurance IMHO, I have Privilage Insurance and can add a Bolt on for occasional off road, does work out expensive but its tailor made as I dont off road much so why pay for the year.
However, if I was in your predicament, just going home and this happened, whats the chances my cover would pay out.
I truly hope yours will come to a amicable conclusion

Points taken J@mes & Mac, just have to play the waiting game now, not much else I can do apart from twiddle my thumbs and chase the NFU periodically.
I'm just glad I've got the 90 as a back-up.Clive

Sorry for your troubles mate.
If the water was that east maybe your lucky it didnt turn over with you inside. A disco can be replaced, you on the otherhand, maybe not.
Hope the insurance come throughA happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

Cheers Tanters, TBH if the water was that fast I think I'd have felt it sooner and made a hasty retreat, as it was, it just lifted the back end enough to slew it round then it rolled backwards a little bit.
The annoying thing was that I was over half way across when it went, another couple of yards and I would have made it without any of this whole silly saga. Clive

Having worked all my adult life in building cars/trucks I definately wouldn't be keeping it if it's "dried out" and returned to you as "ok to go". It would be sold, and pronto.....
Whether the water is 'clean' or otherwise it will have a nasty long term effect on the electrics. Even just a bit of water getting into a wire will spread like cancer.
The cars a gonner IMO
Begs question of the police though that if the car was "evidence" why it wasn't recovered ASAP However once 'dunked' I'd want it left there to ensure I didn't get it back

It's something I wondered at the time, but I guess when they put tape round it and call it a "crime scene" they want it left as-is?
They did say I could do what I want with it after I was "de-arrested" and given a lift home though.Clive

disco's shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
