I bought my D3 18 months ago, 2006 model. It came with a Land Rover towbar with a drop plate and struts which attach to the chassis. I am working on taking this off the vehicle but its causing me a few problems.
I have a small key which, judging from the LR manual, appears to be the right shape and size. It took some coaxing to get the key into the towbar (no I didn't use a hammer!) but I cannot get the key to turn. I am however, able to twist the green lever and pull it out so I can see the red indicator. The towbar won't budge though.
Does the key have to be in the lock and turned for the removal of the towbar? Phrased another way could the towbar be fitted without using the key thereby not requiring it to remove the towbar.
With the towbar locked should it be possible to turn the green lever and see the red indicator?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Brendon

Try some plus gas, for the key turning bit, and prob for the other bit too.
It may just be seased up and need freeing a bit, with all the bebris it picks up hung under there it will no doubt require some form of penetrating oil ?
Failing that and mindful of the obvious i dont really want state how it should be tackled,
Good Luck tho and keep us informed if it budges,

Sound like you have the fixed towbar rather than the removable one. If that is the case then you need to first remove the stut arms from below the chassis as well. Then the key becomes and issue. The fitting instructions can be downloaded from the LR website - i assume removal is the reverse of fitting.
Someone more knowledgeable will be along soon

I have removed the bolts for the struts; my main problem is that since I have never used the key before I can't be 100% certain its the correct one (the vehicle came from a LR dealer so I guess its possible the key could have got mixed up). I will try a little more WD40 to see if that helps.
Can anyone confirm though whether its possible for the towbar to be fitted without it being locked?
I appreciate the security issues - it is my vehicle but thats difficult to prove on the forums without posting data I wouldn't want displayed in public.
