Hi everyone,
New member, but been a reader for almost a year since i bought my D3 in February. 2009 model, 2.7 diesel, auto and 264000 km with some issues that have been corrected over the year. New compressor (hitachi to AMK conversion), new compressor tank, left hand xenon-ballast, cooling thermostat, all the filters (transmission filter and connector seal, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter) and probalby some more stuff i've forgot. And still some items on the list like glow plugs, rear left door lock, some frame surface rust, HP pump belt..
Been chasing a engine failure message, started with chaning the MAP sensor, then the intercooler hoses (all 3 of them), found the intercooler to be deteriorating so changed that one to, found the fuel cooler in front to be leaking a tiny bit, but didn't change that, and changed the LH EGR since i had already taken so much apart on the left side to replace the intercooler hoses. This helped alot, the engine failure happens very rarely now which i'm guessing (hoping) is just the RH EGR valve, but it's so rare that i haven't bothered yet, although the part is bought in. So not sure what the cause of engine failure really was, but the inttercooler hoses was in bad shape, especially the smalest one on the turbo. So all silicone hoses now.
Did the cam shaft belt and Aux belt this weekend. Had an awful time getting the fan off, it was just completely stuck and the fan tool from AdvnacedFactor was s..t, broke on the first try. Used the parts of the tool and drilled some holes to attach it to the aux belt idler bolt and the fan pulley bolt and finally it came loose. Used about 5 hours to get the fan off, and then maybe 5 hours for the remaining work. This work and my previuous work on the Landie was all done thanks to helpfull info from this forum (and some other Landie forums). I appreciate all the good info here!!

Hi Martin
Although I'm not an owner yet, I have my eye on a few Disco 3s and ultimately want to be able to travel around Europe and the UK with the Mrs. I'm hoping to get some insight on these especially the air suspension/how easy it is to fault find and any aftermarket suspension parts.
Looking forward to getting involved with the Disco community!
Cheers

Welcome to all the new members of the forum.
The "search" function is a very useful tool. If that doesn't help then post your question/query/reason why you're banging your head against the wall in the relevant section and the really helpful/knowledgeable peeps will do their best to respond Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Hi welcome!
You can get a lot of help here for sure, most common issues have been covered before many times, so as suggested by ianm27. Use the search button/option at your convenience
Regarding the air suspension…. The D3 is NOT very weak regarding air suspension imho
No need to look for alternative parts really…. BUT the D3 is a very “Electronic” motor and VERY sensitive to problems regarding low battery, bad connection’s due to water ingress if not meticulously maintained etc. Etc. And as a result it can lower the suspension as a “reaction” and take the special programs off (line)
So look for a leak free one!, and keep it leak free….. healthy battery, avoid short drives… use high quality materials on maintenance (oil, filters) and do maintain it regularly…..
Last tip; never spend ALL of your budget for buying one and goodies, but keep a significant part of the budget reserved for maintenance and repair… you WILL need that budget quite possibly
Otherwise they are lovely motors Best regards
Harold

Hi
In the market for a D4. We had a 2018 XC90 until July this year, when the lease ended. Our new car "Touareg" has been hugely delayed as a factory build. so taking the opportunity of getting out of the leasing option and going to see what a late D4 can offer.
We need a large vehicle to to our twin axle 2000kg caravan and carry all the tackle we need to take, including our Giant Schnauzer, she goes in a TransK9 crate, which hopefully will fit.
We did try the D5, but wife didnt like it and as it is her daily car gets a casting vote.
Hopefully will go and see a couple for sale locally this week and see how we get on....
Great forum with loads of info

Hello folks,
What can I say, fate has dragged me here!
I fancied a disco for a while, but in the end when the time came I ended up buying a 300tdi Defender instead. I was willing to accept its (several...) flaws and quirks because it was the car of my childhood dreams and undeniably a hell of a lot of fun.
But I crashed it just before Christmas and there's a strong chance it's going to be a write off!
If that's the case, and assuming the insurers play ball and give me a fair price for it, I may very well come looking for a Disco instead. Unfortunately I don't have the space or time to keep the Defender and fix it myself, and I don't have the energy to go looking for another good one! Besides, I do sometimes miss the mod cons when I'm in the Defender, and with the potential of a baby on the way this year a 90 with no rear seats probably isn't the best option long term...

are you sure the Disco3/4 is the way to go then?
lovely Motors for sure and you will be amazed what it CAN do in comparison to a Defender, BUT ... they often need time and space and "budget" too! to keep budget in control, DIY is the best option, atleast regarding fault finding and maintenance Best regards

Ah, I'm not scared of getting the spanners out once in a while, or even forking out some cash to a specialist if needs be. But with the Defender I meant I sadly don't have time and space to repair the accident damage (which is fairly urgent) AND do all the other stuff I already had planned AND use it as a daily driver. Hi there,
After lusting over one for a long time, i am the new owner of a 2009 silver xs tdv6 manual discovery 3!
Based in the northwest of England.
I didn't come into ownership blind, i am aware of the issues concerning discovery 3 ownership !
Whilst i love it to bits, part of me is terrified of it breaking at any point. Need to get over this fear.
Whilst im aware there is a facebook group, of which i am a member, in an effort to reclaim my life from digital distractions i've purged it from my phone! Im hoping this forum is still active, i prefer the format of forums as i find the information sometimes to be of higher quality, and i dont need to be glancing down at my phone 20 times a day! Just my personal preference.
Looking forward to interacting! Already found some really useful guides here.

Welcome aboard !
Being in Chorley, you'll no doubt get invited if we ever get to hold a NW Breakfast meet again ... although maybe with an introduction that included "I'm hoping this forum is still active" perhaps you won't get the invite !
On the downside ... if you ONLY look here 20 times a day, you'll miss some good stuff. .
