Sat Nav average speed

Did you know, that if you go into the Defaults section of Settings on the sat nav system, there is a default speed button at the bottom of the screen. If you press it it sets the vehicles average speed stored in the trip computer to the sat nav.

This make the journey time remaining a bit more accurate.

I've had the darn thing 20 months now, and only just found it.

Are you sure it takes the speed from the trip computer?

Normally the calculations of a navigation computer are based on several speeds (motorway, major roads, minor roads, cities). That is how it can offer short versus quick routes. When it gets the average speed from the trip computer that difference would be lost.

Besides the button is labelled "default", and the trip computer average is hardly a default. I thought it would reset each speed category to a specific factory default. The good news is that such would mean that the system is adaptive. Afterall, the GPS should know your real speed on each kind of road.

You could be correct Shocked I have just had another look. Its not very clear, and it implies that the speed can be varied by other means. This may be automatic, and I can't find anything in the manual to confirm this.

I think Hans has a point there. As an example.. with Tomtom you used to be able to adjust the average speed you anticipated for each road class. The average speed recorded and displayed in the centre display in the disco shows only the average speed of the vehicle overall. Crying or Very sad

There does not appear to be any way of viewing or changing the average speed settngs, other than this default button.

So it could just be a red herring and is actually doing nothing at all.

The journey times are not very accurate though, and do not seem to adjust to the road types en-route. For example, if I enter a journey of 60 miles, 1/2 motorway 1/2 a road, it will probably start off by telling me 120 minutes. As soon as I hit the motorway, it will drop right down to 60 minutes.
