We have a Thule "BoltOn 9705" 4 bike rack on a Kangoo it's great - and it really does hold 4 bikes.

You can buy the attachment plate separately and as soon as it arrives I'm going to put it onto an adjustable tow bar and try it without the side struts.
Even with 4 bikes I don't think this is going to be a problem for the D3 if the side arms are missing.
If you just want to screw onto the tow bar ball the "HangOn 9708" looks like it's much the same rack so it should work just as well as the 9705.

have fun!

Depends if you need to tow at the same time or not.
If not, the Thule is great - my Brother has this. If you do need to tow at the same time (like me) then the MaxxRaxx is great also. Both are well made and should last a decent amount of time.

MaxxRaxx is great but heads up, it won't work with the D4 removable towbar and an Alko caravan stabiliser hitch
