Mine's a seized actuator, when that's seized it a new turbo according to them. She is now topless, dealer is going to take a couple of pics as not able to get down there. The saga continues. Mr. Green

Re rm's suggestion, mine is driveable, it doesn't just stop playing. Even if doesn't run normalish on restart it can still move. Advice by RAC dude was drive as if there is an egg between foot & gas peddle, don't draw in too much air. Wouldn't want to start poking around under the wheel arches if stuck on the side of the road, ISTR these things get a bit toastie!!

I used this product on mine when it was first 'playing up' , I think it made a difference but its a bit hard to tell if it was just my imagination. Anyhow, I did a comprehensive write up of how I did it without taking the turbo off and with the vehicle on a four poster. I posted it on here but having just done a search cant find it now Big Cry

If anyone knows where the posting has disappeared to (or can find it) then it might be worth a read before you start.

I think I still have a complete kit kicking around somewhere you can have for cost if you want, just PM me if you want me to check.

Having had another attempt to work out where the oil leak was on my turbo yesterday, I can confidently say there is little chance of reaching the actuator mech from the wheel arch access. You can just see the electrical connector on the far side, but none of the linkage. I need to change the short top hose that links the turbo to the intercooler, and even that's a pig to get to. Once that's removed, you may be able to feel the actuator link, but certainly not see it without a mirror.

TOPix (LR tech info site) now has instructions for changing the turbo without removing the body, which might be interesting.

Wonder if, while the body is off and the turbo is removed, is it worth renewing the turbo hoses?? Originals are over 5 years old. Airbox/intercooler hose was changed last Sept.

Or am I just being paranoid?

Thoughts peeps!! Thumbs Up

Mine's 6 years old, and the stubby hose on the top of the turbo is bulging, so I would say yes, change them. It's a nightmare to remove and replace through the wheelarch access, and must only cost a few £, so I think it's worth doign whilst you have access.

You can get stuff to clean the turbo without taking it apart.
Comes in parts in two spray cans. Can't remember the name though. Rolling Eyes

Just had my turbo replaced by K & R Engineering in HULL 4x4 independents and MOT station - brilliant job. £1568.00

It was Ray that did the work.

got my old turbo from them so i could have a play about with it on my bench at home.

runs as sweet as a nut now..

these guys also stock 4x4 parts (original and pattern) from April 2011.

give em a try - superb.

I had my turbo checked out by my dealer when in the other day & they have told me that it is ok.

Problem is I keep on loosing power every now and again, when it happens the engine is very noisey (taperty) & you cant hear the turbo wherring.

When it is working ok I get a whooshing noise when I easy off the accelerator.

The problem is it is intermittant & although the dealer has heard it whooshing, they can not find where it is coming from. It is not putting any errors into the log either, so dealer at a loss.

I have sorted the usual susspects & the whooshing has eased off after the de-cat pipe.

Thinking about bighting the bullett & having a new turbo fitted, big expence if it doesn't solve the issue.

Sorry forgot to put when I ease off the accelerator I also get a noise like the dry clutch on a ducati, this only lasts for a couple of seconds, then stops.

Turbo problems or lack of power

A little while back I had a problem with a gas valve failing. This was fixed under warranty but he return of the landy there was no power from the engine. I took an engineer out from Lookers in Park Royal who first stated there was not a problem. When I put my foot down and planted him in the rear of the wagon after a short time of nothing happening and all the power arriving at once the engineer agreed there was a problem. I had the turbo re-programmed and now there is no lose of power or turbo lagg.

Before spending, have the turbo checked with a dealer.

Hi does anyone have info on the software update for the turbo vane automation please?

Or anything I can do to stop the turbo seizing?

I’ve already tried moving it with wire and spraying copper grease. It didn’t last very long.

Ideally like a long term fix for this
