Good hippo, sure... But Disco is very good for long travels.
It is comfortable and fast on the highway and CAN go there, where no roads at all.
Now my friends, on two D3, are in the expedition: Altai Mountains, Mongolia, then back to Russia - Sayan Mountains, east bank of Baykal Lake... and back to Moscow. Reports from this trip with photos are here: http://forum.britanica-auto.ru/viewtopic.p...p;start=90 (and the pages nearby).
Written in Russian, but pictures explain everything... And Google can help to translate the comments. World is big!

..just got back from my trip to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia - really nice landscapes and lots of offroading possible. Ulan Bator is next Wink[/quote]

Ok.
1. First of all, full aluminium protection of belly, including tank and compressor!
2. Snorkel.
3. Mud tyres. Here is the problem. 275/65/18 works, but, if suspension system will be totally dead, you will get unwanted, but good parking brake. Another way is to use smaller MT tyres on 17" discs... (loss of clearence).
4. Aluminium bumpers, both front and rear.
5. Additional fuel tank (in the place of spare wheel) - very important part in wild places!
6. Front and rear electric winches.
7. Spare wheel holder on the rear bumper.
8. Reinforced aluminium side protection tubes (allow "HiJack" usage).
Something else:
1. CB radio, satellite phone... shockproof laptop with OzyEzplorer, etc.
2. Additional, independent battery (there is the free place for it in the engine bay!)
3. One of them is equipped with a small electronic device which allows to lift up the suspension 35 mm more by pressing the button. It is Matzker http://www.matzker.de/product_info.php?products_id=750...
