That's the problem with WD, it seems to give such variable "customer experiences". Also it depends on the dealer as when I was sorting out my first extended warranty the more local dealer (Inverness) at the time said they wouldn't deal with Tesc at all, they'd only deal with LR one. Daft thing is LR one is a branded Car Care Plan product, and so was the Tesco one. Often it's the attitude of the dealer that can make a big difference. I use Guava in Guildford & Frank Ogg in Elgin, both experienced at jumping through their hoops. Smile

To be clear I only got to the purchase stage of the warranty with WD and I have no experience of them beyond that other than hearing from others ...and that has been some very good and some very bad. I'm not judging them on the warranty itself .....I'm judging them on

a\ Insinuating I was lying when I gave them a price that I was looking for based on a price offered to someone else with the same vehicle and the actual words were "How do I know you are telling the truth about this price..you could be just making it up" Shocked

b\ negotiating arguing about what was going to be included to the point where I felt I was doing him the favour of buying the bleedin' warranty

c\ Not return my calls or e-mails when the policy schedule arrived and was missing the agreed items. This is the final nail that drove me to cancel TBH

d\ wanting to charge me a refund % before the active date of the warranty.

Seems you failed the attitude test with the sales team, going in guns blazing stating you want a low price as you know someone else had got it isn't really the way, I gave my price as a guide to others so they know what the bottom line could be in their negotiations, I wouldn't expect them to say he got it so I want it, it is up to them to negotiate with the sales person and be armed with all possible info. Put yourself in their shoes, everyone ringing up suddenly demanding a discount, it would soon pee anyone off if it affects your commission or margin.

As for arguing what is covered and what is not, that again is simple and written down clearly for all to see, what there is are a few things, again stated on here that can be added by the sales person in the negotiation, but that is to be negotiated again knowing that it can be. As for them denying that they agreed anything, well all calls are recorded no matter what so there is no grey area there, just ask them for a transcript of the call or refer them to it. but it should never get to that. All the extras I negotiated had come from info on this forum otherwise I would not have had a clue but I never told them that, just questioned the odd bits and as did they covered me.

It does seem that members on here have been fortunate to share their experiences and benefit from negotiating some good deals, but as I said earlier these people are there to make money they are not a charity, the sales people need paid as well, if we all cut it to the bone then who is going to pay us out. We need the people who get a quote and just pay, they boost the pot, we should also be grateful for this forum as it has certainly helped a few people on here, but if I was WD head of sales I would be pretty peed off with everyone wanting o cut it to the bone and taking my commission.

It does seem if you play the game you get rewarded, the discounts are a result of how you treat them and negotiate, not a right, they have their prices that you get when they quote you, so anything less than that should be regarded as a win. I was a little more relaxed when I took mine out as it was 10mths ahead of when I would need it, but that in itself seems to have paid off for me this year, but it will be interesting to see what the next years quote is, it may be payback time Laughing

I did think about getting a quote to extend to 2 or 3 yrs extended warranty, but with the economy as it is and the way people are driving down their quotes with them I would need to be 100% certain they would be around then, I even questioned that on here when I took it out but it seems they are doing OK so I may get a quote out of interest Wink

At my last service just before Christmas I asked the dealer about WD, they had nothing but praise for them and said they did loads of WD work, even though the customer pays WD direct it was comforting to know that the dealer had a good relationship with them for assessing the work. But as you say time will tell Thumbs Up

DG, WD were doing a referral system that virtually guaranteed you got the same deal as the existing policy holder. I must have had 6 or so peeps PMing me, getting my policy number & basically saying to WD "match that & you've got the deal". Worked a treat for them. Smile

Re renewal, my price didn't go up much at all having just got the car back from getting its new turbo fitted. I argue it's in their interests to get you to renew as they may claw back some of the outlay. Whistle

DT you are making an assumption that I went in all guns blazin' and with the attitude but I can tell you that this was absolutely not the case ...if you have ever dealt with me directly you would know that. I am very used to successfully negotiating with high profile clients and suppliers throughout my working life and I am all for getting a good deal for me and a good deal for them. So ...to be clear, I did not have the attitude nor was I the active party in the argument..... I was tying to negotiate like any normal person.

Warranty direct

Hi all, as promised, having started the thread, i have now taken out a warranty after all your input and comments.

Warranty Direct called me back to negociate and i have set up the following

Extra care warranty ( couldnt get luxury care as mine is an 06 plate and out of LR warranty)
Includes wear and tear
Franchise rates up to £200 per hour
13 for 12, but advised this is a one off as now discontinued, lucky me!
Airbag and emissions free, which includes egr lucky me again!
Checked also that the EPB is also covered Laughing

Premium quoted initially £851 for 12 months

Premium agreed (13 months cover) £643, and out came mastercard!

Sad to not get luxury cover, but not available unless you are just leaving LR warranty, or have a concurrent warranty running, but unless you have all the gizmos, fancy stereo and electric everything, thats the only real difference, as mines a lower spec model im cool with the cover

The salesperson did state that you need to service at main dealers if you select franchise rate, but upon questioning did state a " landy specialist " would suffice, but not just a vat registered garage.
Think i will stick to main dealers to keep the cover watertight as possible

Hope this info helps others decide

Only real issue I see is that most dealers are not linked with WD, when making a claim with WD you have to pay and then claim it back which isn't the case with CCP.

I appreciate that facts make it difficult for you to produce your ridicule based garbled mantra Peter Razz .....but you have omitted to recognise that despite the poor negotiating from the lad I spoke to initially....I did eventually get everything I wanted at the price I set out to from WD ...I paid them £650 for it ...which for the luxury cover with extras is a cracking deal compared to others I've seen here. It was their subsequent poor admin that led me to cancel. Thumbs Up
