Ah its a long story and an even longer shot that someone could possibly help me.
In fact the cost aspect is pretty pathetic too but you know how some things just get under your skin and niggle you beyond monetary value and it almost gets kinda personal that you have some stupid need to overcome just to feel !!!!.
On ebay, some chap in cambridge is flogging a broken printer that no one else would ever want to buy
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251157921234?ssP...1438.l2648
understandably he wants collection only which is a bit hard with me living in Cyprus.
I just want one really ridiculously easily removable part from it and would happily pay up to 10 quid to win it, plus shipping for the part to be shipped to me in Cyprus. The rest can be binned.
If someone can help it would be much appreciated
Warmest Regards

If I still lived in Cambridge I would happily help you out Colin. But I moved 5000 miles to Austin, Texas so technically I think you're still closer Sadly nearest family is in Ipswich so I can't even do the deed by remote control...

Although StornowayStu's post might not seem very helpful in my case, actually it is incredibly fortuitous he posted up.
You see the only person i could find offering the exact part i need on Ebay, well at a realistic price, also happens to be in Texas and is offering free shipping but will only supply inside the US.
You could not make such co incidence up
I have dropped Stu a PM and hopefully he can help.
Thanks very much for your kind offer to Help Chris.
If the Texas deal does not pan out, i might still end up taking you up on your offer.
As expected the item fetched no bids so i could contact the buyer and make him an offer as a back up plan.
The part is the carriage position encoder strip and getting it out is a simple 2 minute job. 2 screws on each end to get the end covers off, flip each end of the strip off the pegs its hooked onto and pull it out.
Mine was a bit dirty causing the carriage to hit end, slip the toothed drive belt and loose position, and so i gave it all a bit of a clean up, i spent far more effort that it was really worth and got in quite a mess and would have been proud of my achievement, but sadly it seems i overdid it a bit with cleaning the strip
So having gone to all that effort, and with me making it worse, its sort of become a personal mission to solve it and get back some lost pride.

Can the ebay vendor not do it for you if its just a bit? Surely they can remove and post it?
I will be passing Cambridge in a couple of weeks on my way to pick up a 90 but that's probably not much use. Tony

Hiya Tony
Yea, they might possibly do that for a UK based buyer, but i have the added complication of being an overseas buyer, which in the case of someone already specifying "collection only" makes it hardly worth asking.
But thanks for the input and offer to help
In any event it is looking like Stornowaystu will come up trumps.

Colin they probably can't be arsed to box the whole printer up and drag it to the post office for the sake of £6.48 or whatever it might sell for, but if you did contact them and ask if they wouldn't mind stripping the part out and posting it they may be more receptive?
If Stu doesn't come through for you of course! 2014 D4 XS

Yea J@mes.
I have approached some ebay sellers in the past and many have been just fantastic.
I do have a UK adddress based Ebay account to buy stuff with, which i then have reposted to me in Cyprus, but the Paypal account is Cyprus based which some sellers have a problem with, which i can't blame them for as we are forced to only accpept paypal payments when the address matches the shipped to address.

I let it go knowing i can always contact him with an after end of auction offer if i need to, although i would much rather be there in person to keep an eye on his trash /skip
TBH it took nerves of steel to not bid the minimum one quid on it as the ink cartridges must be worth a tenner at least.
But i have total faith in Stu coming through for me
BTW i owe you an apology about your labels, i really should have gone to spec savers
