I have broken the screen on my sat nav and would like to know if I replace it with a second hand one will it work?

You can swap screens no problem .. What you can't do is swap a hard drive from one screen to another ( they must be paired to the screen )
There are 2 different screens .. One with DAB connection and one without G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
