Google Warranty Direct, you may just think twice about using them.
Google L200 crankshaft, or Toyota crankshaft, are Japanese really more reliable?
Google BMW or Mercedes, some real expensive shockers there.
In reality, most of the things that fail on the D3 are wear and tear items, bushes, brakes and even the compressor ETC.
The compressor is a mechanical item with moving parts that work rather hard. The bushes have to contend with stopping a three ton car at every junction and corner.
The ARB bushes have to control the body roll on a three ton car, they do quite well considering there's only four of them.
Corrosion is an issue on any car, how it is looked after makes a huge difference after it has been driven through an English winter on roads covered in salt. Use a garden sprinkler to wash the underside.
Brakes too suffer corrosion on any car.
Most of the issues are relatively cheap to fix if you can follow instructions and know one end of a spanner from the other and are willing to get your hands dirty. I appreciate some people physically can't do the work themselves.
Our steering has started to wander, it may be expensive, it may be cheap and easy to fix but for all its faults we love it and there is nothing that can do for us what the D3 can. You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

Could you possibly have reversed into sea water when launching or recovering a boat & not rinsed with fresh water soon thereafter?
I ask because I saw a second hand D3 with serious rust from just this not long ago.

No just been removed so far to get to the loom, external examinations proved fruitless but now confirmed as the loom, not in stock so ordered on overnight delivery to the dealer, will be fitted and completed tomorrow, I couldn't afford to have them put the bumper back on and then take it off again tomorrow BUT they have given me a brand new FL2 courtesy car,mas I say, no issues with the dealer, just LR who produce the cr@p.

Do you think the flushing has caused corrosion
You know I don't go out in the rain or when the roads are dirty

No, launch and lift out is done by a huge crane, but I know what you mean as I used to launch and recover a smaller boat with my Defender, always used a rope on the trailer though, never got the wheels or rear near sea water, didn't even get the trailer wheels wet, stop just before the hubs

When I bought my MY06 D3 (2005 build) it had a lot of initial problems and a needed a fair amount of warranty work in the first year.
Bought an MY12 D4 a year ago. No major issues initial back door not closing and re-flash of the ICE. About to for first service and the ICE needs doing again and the inside A pillar trim has a manufacturing fault.
That is all no other failures, nothing mechanical.
D3 is still going and better than ever.
I think LR are getting better parts made now.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

A rotten 5 year old car? A car has a small amount of corrosion in a PDC loom now classes as a rotten car? Seriously?
It is a common issue with them, chaffing against the rear crossmember. IIRC, it costs around £40 or so for a new loom. Even then, it could probably be repaired
Finally, FWIW, had you not gone to a main dealer, and used an indy, they could have replaced all 4 sensors, a new loom and refit the bumper for £200 My D3 Build Thread

I think you may overstated the issues somewhat. Some damaged wires for an accessory part is not exactly a disaster and could have been a cheap or even a DIY fix. All brands of car suffer with things like this and should not bring out the outrage bus. As for the suspension parts - nearly worn should equal nearly changed which also equates to nearly paid for by warranty.
The Disco 3 does chomp its way through components that suffer the shear weight of the vehicle and these should not come as a surprise a large 4x4 owner. For balance against your troubles my D3 was with me for 8 years /90k and in that time had no electrical work, no corrosion problems and no suspension work.

you want to try the ownership costs of a light aircraft.
When I bought my first 140 cherokee a very wise many said " If you can't write a cheque for £5000 without wincing then don't by an aeroplane - If asked that would be the exact advice I would give to anyone contemplating buying a L R D3.
Most all of the D3's problems stem from the fact that it is to heavy!!

So we've learnt that a 5 year old, 2.7 ton vehicle does suffer wear, can go a bit rusty, and Warranty Direct don't like to pay up…. next week we'll be investigating if bears crap in the woods!
