Unless you want a light(ish) trolley jack to lift in and out of the car boot, I don't recommend the CTJ3000QL. I've knackered 2 - one had a valve go and the other twisted so it doesn't lift straight. The bigger jack has a much wider saddle, so it holds the chassis rails much more securely, and it also is much more strongly built and has a longer handle with much more leverage.

The downside is that it weighs a ton. I keep it in the garage and just trundle it out to change wheels.

Was going to get myself one of these Clarke CTJ300Gl Jacks at £40.11.
But Rob's comments above have put me off a little bit.
Trouble is, the next one - the CTJ3QlG3-J is £82.23.
That's double the price!!!
As I am only going to use this to change from Road Wheels to Off Road Wheels and back again, [lifting just one wheel at a time] which is my best bet/value?
Also bearing in mind - versus the Standard issue LR jack.
Going to Machine Mart on Monday to purchase, so all views appreciated.

I got a good one from Costco and a pair of free 3 ton axle stands for about £58. Only thing is it's big.

Ron - my advice is DON'T buy the Clarke CTJ300Gl - I got one and first time I used it it slipped off the chassis- it has a very small saddle on it - lucky I had an axle stand there - also it creaks and groans trying to lift the D3 & it lost it's high-lift capacity
I took it back and changed it for the CTJ3QlG3-J. A much better jack. I also got the 6-ton axle stands as they will reach the 520mm height

OK, forget the £40 one,(CTJ3000QL)..............What about the CTJ3000G 3T pro garage jack at £64.61..? It doesn't have the 'Quick Lift' facility, but looks to be about the same size saddle / strength / dimensions as the CTJ3QLG3-T (£82.23). Is the 'Quick Lift' really worth the extra dosh?

Good find DND3 Thumbs Up
Well Machine Mart seem to hide this one.
When doing a range comparison with the other two jacks - it doesn't feature.
Also not featured in their ad in LROI

But yes, seems as good and same spec as the £82 one but without the QL system
As I'm not planning to change Lewis Hamiltons tyres, I don't really need to pay the extra £20 just to save a few seconds.
And there's something not quite right about paying double the price of the £41 jack to the £82 jack.
Therefore the CT3000G 3T is where my £65 is going!
Thanks DND3 Thumbs Up

That seems to be a good choice Thumbs Up
I didn't see that one when I went to MM Crying or Very sad but the QL feature does save a hell of a lot of pumping to reach the chassis when the D3 is at off-road height

Cheers ronp Thumbs Up ... I may get one of these myself, as my 2t jack was struggling a bit when I last swapped my wheels over,( jacking under the wishbones), so I wouldn't like to trust it under the chassis lifting possibly 1/2 a D3. If you go to MM, compare it with the QL one side by side if you can, and go for whichever looks strongest/best value, and if there are any other differences. PS. Not averse to a bit of pumping either. Laughing

Guys!
Why on earth do you want to balance the car half a metre up in the air on its chassis rail??

Far safer to jack under the wishbones - insert jack 'in line' with car.

Bear in mind that you are effectively only lifting 1/4 - 1/2 the car, so a 2t trolley is perfectly capable (but obviously still don't go under it without proper stands)

... what I'm saying is there's really no need for a monster trolley jack.

Without offence -- I was advised the ONLY safe place to use a jack on was the same places(s) as the supplied jack goes - i.e. on the chassis.

Whether this is correct or not I don't know - but maybe it has something to do with the air-suspension?

Quick question from an ignoramous - is the wishbone jacking 'point' the same as described in the Manual for Coil Sprung D3's?

In response to the previous post, I have seen quotes from AndrewS about jacking elsewhere (under wishbone) than the chassis rail on Air Sprung D3's

Taz, sorry, didn't mean to be either offensive or patronising (must re-read before I post Embarassed )

I've tried both ways & will now only jack under the 'wishbones'. You only lift the car a few inches, meaning the jack doesn't travel (height or rolling along the floor) anywhere near as far.

I confess the real reason I changed was that I watched how the tyre fitters jacked the car this way with no fuss at all, after all the struggle I'd been having trying to do it the 'proper' way. (tried the crap LR jack, then a bottle jack, then trolley jack on chassis...)

It'd be usefull to hear advice from LR professionals & from tyre fitters - any around? (again, sorry if I'm missing something earler in the thread)
