Tuning & economy
Have finally got the "go on then" from Mrs DSL for getting the car remapped. Looking at a remap that favours economy and drivability rather than bhp and 0-60 times. How have people found any increase in mpg (or l/100 km, I'll convert it) with the various retunes/remaps/chips etc. Looking at the moment at the "main" 3, Torq Tune, TC or JE. Any input would be appreciated and hopefuly would be of use to others!

Well I used to get more MPG before getting TC - a good 50 miles to the tank less on average... Seems as if most others do (or claim to) get better MPG though, so I seem to be in the minority!IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Providing your driving style remains the same, Torq-Tune can give you an additional 5-12% increase in fuel economy.
Brendan, sounds like you might have an EGR problem? or maybe you had other mods done at around the same time which are affecting the mpg?

Second that ...had a previously unknown 31.5 on a long trip recently...back down to a 'towny' 24.5 at the mo...used to be 21.5.. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Iain, no idea...nobody servicing it has ever said there were any fault codes logged (or would there be?). When the dealer wiped the TC before Christmas last year, it was a month before I got it put back on, and the MPG improved in that month and then dropped as soon as I got it remappped again.
And before anyone says it, I'm not racing people off from the lights all the time now! 99.5% of the time, my driving style is exactly the same. I never noticed a massive difference with it done anyway - so much so that it took me a while to realise that the dealer had wiped it during the service! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

DG, 31.5 is pretty good considering you carry half a LR accessory shop's stock on your car and on MTRs!!

DSL, agreed - 31.5 with all that gear is amazing. I'm struggling to get 30 these days on long trips with road tyres and no rack, winch, etc. Settles at around 29.5. When I had the expo rack and winch on, it was around 26.IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

DW, EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation - at certain RPMs/loads the engine ECU will recirculate some exhaust gas in through the intake - it aparrantly reduces emmissions.IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

I average about 27.5 on long hauls, got 32.55 tops on trip from S Wales to Paris and back sitting at 60 all the way but way too boring for normal driving.

Brendan, if it's that un-noticable there's definitely something wrong
EGR problems don't always log DTC's, another possible cause is a problem with the MAF this will be logged as a DTC - something along the lines of 'MAF 1/2 correlation' this causes the ECU to ignore the standard map and use a fallback one, no MIL light on the dash though
Sometimes a remap can expose latent defects as components are used more efficiently
Not sure if Chris can read DTC's - might be worth having a word with him?

Well I read whatever fault codes the autologic unit reads when putting it back on last Christmas, and there was no codes at all logged.
Well there is a difference, just not a huge one, maybe it's just that I don't drive it in such a way to appreciate the difference much... The most noticable thing about it is the smoke in certain situations! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
