Be careful what you wish for - publicity like this should make them very hard to sell or trade.
Think you will find just about everyone in the trade knows about the issue.
It is getting to be common knowledge amongst the punters as well, one guy i know got a 65plate ffrr and was asked (by someone who I would say knew very little about engines) did it have the 3.0tdi? and if so when is the crank going to snap
It has been an ongoing issue for years and if the cars lose value it will effect the whole range, so maybe just maybe l/r will not mess around in the future, it may also help current D5 owners with the same powerplant.

Wheres DG to counter these ludicrous, scurrilous reports about crankshafts from the glorious Landrover engines?
Oh, spoke too soon, he's here.

I’m not convinced they’re any worse than other manufacturers, they all have problems, and if they don’t go bang they are a really nice smooth powerful engine, and can do mega miles.
Would Landrover still be using this engine if there was a serious problem.
Don’t forget these things tend to get blown out of proportion on the Internet. If you didn’t read these threads, chances are you wouldn’t know there was a potential problem.
On a side note, a mechanic friend, who is not a particular fan of Landrovers, was standing outside of my D4 as I reversed up a tight drive, and said “ I have to confess, that engine does sound nice”!!

Yeah BMW have similar problems.
Having an engine fail and require complete replacement is very serious! and ££££
Both LandRover and the engine manufature want to stop production ASAP
once a replacement is available.
I guess for those wanting replacement engines, this could make things worse!

I suspect they all have their issues. The old saying if you want to drive into the Bush take a Land Rover but if you want to come back take a Landcruiser doesn’t stack up when talking to the eldest who’s a work shop manager at a Toyota dealership. He sees Landcruisers on a regular basis with warranty issues, some serious on year old models.
My gripe with LR is how on earth it can cost so much to rectify what has been recognised as a design/manufacturing fault Discovery 4 HSE

Engine failures BBC investigation - Crank failure
Just seen this on FB.
A BBC consumer programme would like to speak to Land Rover owners who believe they have experienced crankshaft failure. If you’d be happy to let them contact you, please could you email anna.hodges03@bbc.co.uk within the next two days.

But at least BMW fully cover their engines under their extended warranty scheme with the usual provisos and don’t exclude them, whereas with the LR extended warranty it’s excluded as a known manufacturing fault and you have to rely on LR goodwill!!

I am here I wish all participants every success in getting the BBC to force JLR to take some action, particularly on recompensing those who rightly qualify for such
I still stand by everything I've ever said about the matter, which let us remember, is not questioning whether crank failures occur ...it is questioning the scale of those failures when comparing the average %age failure rate vs sales and vs engines in other marques.
As always, I am very happy to have my view proved wrong. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
