Confused did i? cant remember doing that. I remember asking if another option could be made available not change the question everyone was answering. defeats the purpose of a poll if you change the question halfway through.... sounds like the labour party set this one up Laughing

pleeeeeasse could we start this vote again with a 'yes, but members should declare connection to LR or dealership.'

OK, so you didn't ask for it to be changed, but that's obviously what happened after you ask this Wink

Idea How about allowing 'LR Dealer' etc to post in a Dealer Area of the forum, and then letting him/her join as an owner under a separate anonomous (non-obvious) identity?

Just seems to be adding complication - I will certainly look into a dealer specific requests forum, but I won't rush into adding one without discussing it with the dealer staff to see if they would use it.

I voted for yes.

Also yes it is best to have a Dealer Forum you just need to log into newminiscotland web site to see how busy the dealer forum can get you don't want the post to get lost among the other posts and lets face it disco3 can go offtopic a good bit on some threads. Wink

Note of caution to the dealers be careful what you post and say as I have known some dealers to get in trouble as some dealers like to view these sites unknown and if they see something that THEY FEEL a dealer shouldn't be saying they tend to report them.

Also some of the guys on here who know alot about LR would need to resist the urge to reply to the thread and give the dealers a chance to reply. You know what all you bolkes are like "know everything"

Also I would hope that some folks would not use it as a chance to have a go at the dealers.

Fi.

I'm new to the site and have found it a fantastic source of knowledge. It has really helped me out. I am still trying to work out the relationship between the dealers and Land Rover and am wondering if it may be beneficial to members in some cases if Land Rover technical people did not declare who they are. Maybe they would be more able to pass on any significant advice/information than if they had to be more open about who they were. I don't know, just thinking out loud. Still trying to work it all out. I think I have a great dealer by the way. Could you enforce disclosure anyway?? I originally voted 'yes' but I think the question has changed now.

I think if people remain anonymous, they generally say what they like without fear of personal retribution and will be more eager or free willing to post about an issue without having to watch their backs so to speak. the only reason I can see someone making it known they are a dealer is to profit or at least have someone show an interest in their dealership.
'oh, he sounds good, I'll just PM him and see what he can do for me'
we all have an alter ego on here. who wants to give out their name, address and D.O.B.
if LRDealer is here as an enthusiast (wether through his work or choice of vehicle) then that is all I need to know, no more, no less. I'm geussing some dealers, techs are here and would wish to remain anonymous to avoid some flack from us or their bosses but still like to share what they know. if you do have a seperate dealer section then they should pay for the privelidge to post there otherwise they would post in the main forum for all of us to enjoy and not have a commercial agenda.
that's what I think anyway and I geuss we could keep going around in circles for years, or at least DD will try to Laughing

well although i work for a dealer i dont post on here as a spokesman for them or in that role. personally its a good way to find out more about the cars i sell from users who are passionate about them. i have even started to direct my new customers here for a users view rather one of a saleman and they have been very gratefull for the unbias views they have got from it. im not here to tout for business but also like to share the new "gossip" and upfront information you would be able to get from visiting your dealer.

im also pretty amazed how much most people on here hate there dealer and have bad service from there salesman. kinda makes me think im doing some thing good!

I'm not sure the word 'most' is quite right there Tony ......look here:

LOL! that's a great avatar for a salesman. You must have a good sense of humor.

However, I don't think you're statement above is quite on target. It's sorta like the Dentist. We don't hate the dentist, but we hate going to see him! 90% of the negative vibes on this forum regarding dealers is service related, as in maintainence related. This ranges from the frequency that service is required, to be giving the run around by service managers, and everything in between.

I'll give you an example. A while back I took my car in for a few items, one of them was a squeaky drivers window when it was rolled up or down. Instead of installing a dab of grease, they replaced the entire actuator motor. But in so doing, they scratched my window (on the inside) and dented my door! (an outwards dent, from the inside).

I told my mechanic friend who works there about my displeasure, and he said to bring it in.

So last week I took it in for the 15,000 mile service, and told them about it. Two days later, I my car is done, nothing is done to the door or window. No explaination of why or whynot, no appology, no denial, just....nothing. Like maybe I'll forget. Hello? I tend to see the Driver side door EVERY DAY.

So what are my options? I dunno. I hate even having to ask.
