Notice rrsport.co.uk are getting the visiting dealer treatment, not that they have noticed. Too busy with bling, air vents & changing side lights!

It will become obvious fairly quickly whether a member is connected to a dealership,
I'm sure that some members on here have connections to dealers through family or friends - in fact most of us will have had contact with a dealer as owners or prospective owners. Some have even recommend dealers that they've had good experiences with so it could be argued that there is a conflict of interest there straightaway..
It is not necessarily obvious, and I absolutely believe the involvement of dealers and LR people is key to keeping a balanced view and perspective.
I cannot however see why declaring a possible conflict of interests is a bad thing? (not your family cousins or mates)
for example: if someone was discussing an experience with a dealer and a representative of that dealer responded without declaring interest then that would be wrong, however if LR or dealership involvement was declared then there is more likely to be a balanced discussion by virtue of the fact that the individuals would be discussing a topic on an even footing.
I definitely would want dealership and LR employee involvement here I would believe its cruical, but those people should be honest and open about it and have nothing to hide.
I cant understand the need for 'pretending' not to have any possible bias. As I said it is a good thing to have that balance out in the open. 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

I never said it was a bad thing, but it isn't a site rule that such connections are required to be out in the open.
For instance, if a dealer group decides, as a company, not to participate in the forum but one of their members of staff wants to contribute as an individual then they may not wish to disclose that they work for that dealer. I would have absolutely no trouble with that at all.
It's time for some trust and common sense to return here, and for us to welcome members until such a point as they make a pain of themselves or flount the site rules. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

My only reservation would be that a lot of us have posted on things we have had done to our D3's, some due to problems, some due to changes we wish to have. How long before a problem occurs with one of our cars, and the dealer involved says "ah, but I know you've modified it - so warrenty invalid" or " Ah but you've had this issue being looked at with X dealer before" from posts he's seen on here, and doesnt want to get involved.
In some ways, I prefer the dealer to be over the wall from me. I prefer a commercial relationship with them, not a social one, even in cyberspace.

...or they can become members, watch, read, make no posts and get the information anyway (and no one would be the wiser).
Simple message is that if you have concerns about keeping issues confidential, then don't post them on the internet in the first place.

You're right, that anybody can come on and take a look. I guess I'm honest enough to use my real name on here (maybe I shouldn't if I want to hide something).
And I've just checked, and 'er indoors recons its still me she's married to.
